  • I wonder if anyone can help me out? I am an existing reward account customer and I want to take advantage of this offer. I have opened a second current account with (not reward as I can't have two) through my online banking. When I get the details though I am going to apply for the switch as it didn't offer me this option on signup. Can I still get this offer by completing the switch form online, or am I better telephoning or going in branch? The switch form by it self does not mention the offer anywhere? I still however appear to be on the right side of the terms and conditions.

Then you need to open a joint account, not another bank account, otherwise you fall foul: "the offer excludes existing Halifax and Bank of Scotland bank account customers switching to new Halifax bank accounts."

Ok, got to ask this: If you get the £100 and move it somewhere else, and then get it removed again as you didn't comply with the T&Cs that only they know but you don't have an overdraft, what happens? Do they ask for it back, or do they make your account £100 overdrawn and then charge you an unauthorised overdraft and £1/day ?
My thinking also. I've already moved the £100 out and have a nil balance with no overdraft. Also eligibility looks a bit ropey. I only opened a single account and have single accounts. The bit about "other regular payments to you account", for instance - it that 'to' the existing account (eg salary credit) or just 'to' the new account (eg any "regular payment" out of your account(s) not into..?)

I theorise that Halifax will show as much alacrity in policing this offer as they already show in not going after customers who have accumulated 3 reward accounts in the past. Their approach to just giving out the money in haste (counting your chickens) doesn't bode well for future efficiency in that area I feel.

  • So, to check. Not eligible?
Existing sole name BoS Reward account to sole name Halifax Reward account.
That's not an upgrade as such.
However yes, it's not sole to joint, or joint to sole name, as per the other laid out criteria.
    Answered my own question?

I would say not elligible according to T&C number 8.
How about closing your BoS account, wait a couple of days then go for the offer? But perhaps bear in mind that the listed T's&C's are probably not definitive!
  • If you remove the £100 then yes you will be placed in either arranged/unarranged overdraft any any fee's will be payble by you.

I assure you its quite different from the reward account as a team is already removing £100 from accounts that dont meet quality checking.

As you do mention reward accounts i may as well tell you if the meeting i attended on wednesday is correct not only will this loophole be closed but anyone who claimed more than was allowed may well find it is reclaimed ( personally i dont think they will but you never know)

Also a minimum transaction amount will be placed on reward account at the end of 2012 to stop people being able to claim the £5 without having main banking with Halifax.

    Transaction amount, or transaction value?

My main account gets about 5 transactions per month. I'd get really annoyed if I was told "We don't seem to be your main bank".

Yeah, this was what one of the staff at a Halifax branch told me when i was trying to sort out my online banking. He said that they are catching on and going to stop this loophole very soon as people are just abusing the system and they are losing money out when people aren't banking with Halifax as their main bank. Its a shame this is going to come to an end, if only i found out about it earlier (got my first reward account in Oct 2011) but i did have a feeling it was a matter of time before it would be ended or the T&Cs were changed.....

So the Halifax might not necessarily abide by their own (botched) published/advertised/promoted T's&C's for this offer. Oh dear.

They rarely do. Asking the staff always seems to get you different conditions to whats stated on the website!
