We just mix up what we need and keep the spare dry mix for the next time. As to quantities of liquid, we start with just a little and add gradually until it looks right.
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!
  • I make up stuffing balls and bag and freeze to go along with a chicken roast from already roasted chicken frozen or to add with pasta. Makes for a cheap and yummy meal.

You can also add to sausage meat to make it stretch and give it a bit of flavour and then freeze and add to pasta dishes or whatever :)

  • My mum uses her stuffing mix "as and when" and only makes enough for 2-3 balls each for Sunday dinner (for the two of us, or 3 if my OH is staying over). She only uses a few tablespoons of mix with a few tablespoons of boiling water.

My OH is a chef and last night she enlightened me into the ways of adding a few teaspoons of dry stuffing mix into gooey dumpling mix to make amazing sage&onion dumplings. She uses only enough to get the hint of sage and onion, nothing overpowering... and as much as I've always loved my's mum cooking, my OH scores top marks for this! lol

Absence is as important as abundance.

if you use a third of a box and the box uses 9 fl ozs then you use 3 fl ozs. but, it rather depends on how thick you like it - but I use this reasoning as a starting point! also dont forget that if you leave the mix to stand for a few minutes before either stuffing your chicken or cooking it - it will thicken up quite a bit! (the stuffing I mean - NOT the chicken!)

I usually make stuffing balls and then freeze down the spares once cooked and cooled. Either that, or make up a little at a time.
You could use stuffing mix (made up but raw) in a sausagemeat plait/giant sausage roll for dinner, very yummy!

I use left over stuffing balls with tomato sauce like meatballs & serve on spaghetti.

So how much liquid do you use for less mix? the paxo box says 9fl oz. I assume its got to be pretty acurate for the "mix" to work and thicken to form into balls...
Look at the box to see the weight of the mix.

If the weight is say 100g and they suggest 9fl oz of water, then weigh out half and only add half the amount of water.

It's all to do with ratios :)

If you make up the whole mix, you can freeze it uncooked. If you cook the mixture, you can freeze and simply reheat.

You could use the raw mix the next day, added to sausagemeat and make a meatloaf (then, you can freeze the cooked, leftover, meatloaf or slice it thinly as a sandwich filling; or, if it looks too much, halve it - use one half as a mini meatloaf or even as "meatloaf muffins" one for each of you, and use the other half to make "meatballs" for a third meal).

    HTH :)

You can freeze cooked stuffing, it goes a little watery so is best heated up again rather than eaten cold.
  • Does anybody really measure the water for stuffing mix? I just pour until it looks about right...

I only make up half the box and store the rest in an airtight container until the next time.

I've come a long way since I used to make up the lot and throw half of it away!
