Leftover Paxo Mix

Hello all,

I use Paxo stuffing (Never stuffed inside a chicken always cooked seperate)
I've pointed that out specifically because I am aware that it makes an whole new ball game with regards to food safety.


So my question is, a small box of the stuffing is too much for two of us.

Can I freeze the left over mix raw or as stuffing balls cooked and then re-heat the cooked stuffing balls.

    I do , think the box for Aldis own brand tells you to do it ??

    You can do either. I have always frozen left over stuffing, Aunt Bessie makes it too! I always make my own sage, onion and breadcrumb stuffing at Christmas, and always have too much! :)

  • I always use half the mix at a time as there are just 2 of us... just an idea for next time! oh and asda/sains/tesco 15p stuff tastes just like paxo!

    :D I didn't think of the Aunt Bessie stuffing, of course thats frozen isn't it.

    I'll give the Aldi one a try, I have tried downgrading from Paxo, but the others arn't the same.

    Linda - I havent used 'real' Paxo in years..........so I dont know if this would apply to that brand too. But, I find the Aldi stuffing does seem a bit bland without adding more salt and a good grind of pepper! otherwise Its a nice stuffing (for the boxed type). I usually just make up as much as I need then keep the rest in its dry state - it still lasts ages!

    I've got a plastic storage jar (neighbour collects them for me, I think they are Horlicks or Ovaltine and I use them for herb and spices) and I tip the packet into there and just use what I need for the meal.

    I sometimes use dry stuffing mix to coat pork chops - I coat the chops with beaten egg, then put them into a dish of the dry stuffing and use it like breadcrumbs. Drizzled with a bit of oil and baked in the oven, they are very tasty and keep the chops nice and moist.

    One of the small boxes of Paxo is often too much even for the four of us! I always freeze 1/3rd of the mix in a plastic tub once it's been mixed (but not cooked). I think it's just the same as buying Aunt Bessie's premade stuff =)

    Thanks all, I had thought that the obvious answer in the first place was to use less of the mix. :) and of course, eventually if you use less mix per box, you will end up with a free box :money:

    So how much liquid do you use for less mix? the paxo box says 9fl oz. I assume its got to be pretty acurate for the "mix" to work and thicken to form into balls.
    Or do you just use "some" water that seems enough.

    I can work with using "some water" as a measurement :D

    I will give the Aldi one a try, but as I say, I have tried downbranding and the other are bland, I agree with that.

    I never measure! But I have been making it a long time! I just put some in a jug/bowl and pour over boiling water. I suggest you start with less than you think you will need and add a little at time until you get the right mix. I cook it in a small bowl so the consistence does not matter a great deal, but I don't like it soggy. You will soon learn how much water you need.
