3 days and chuck it - shame they could have made up some turkey dishes on day 3 and frozen them.

Is it ok to defrost meat then cook it then refreeze once cooked?

It's ok to defrost raw meat, cook it and refreeze it but I wouldn't defrost cooked meat, make a dish with it and then refreeze it.

Whilst I think everyone is technically correct that it should be kept refridgerated and eaten within about 3 days, I currently have the end of a gammon joint in the fridge that was cooked on the 23rd, and we were eating it up until yesterday. No-one fancied it today, and I think I will probably chuck it tomorrow. It's been left out of the fridge on several days from lunchtime through til bedtime, but always covered and refridgerated overnight...

Assuming the turkey looks alright and smells alright, I'd probably make a hot dish with it if I really didn't have anything else in the house, making sure that the meat was heated right through to piping hot during cooking. Perhaps a turkey pasta bake or similar.

Don't risk it. Having suffered from salmonella and campylobacta in the past nothing iffy is worth the risk, believe me!

That was what I was going to ask because we had cooked turkey from the deli, froze it, defrosted for xmas day but then there was masses left after boxing day and turkey curry and some soup, threw it out, shame waste but thought it best not to re-freeze it as it had already been cooked

  • The rule is to never freeze meat in the same state twice. Raw once and cooked once. That's it
