mmm I'm intrigued as to how me putting some sheets in the washing machine could in any way shape for form cause the death of a family member - unless of course its me throttling OH for turning it off mid-cycle cos 'its too noisy'.
What a lot of silly nonsense!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

My mum (born 1919) and now no longer with us ...sadly, always used to tell me never to wash clothes on New Years Day....as you will 'wash someone out of the family'...meaning a death. :eek:I never wash clothes on this day....call me superstitious......;)0

My grandmother on my dads side always said
"Wash your clothes on New Years Day, wash one of the family away"
So I never did, until today - the Labrador had an accident on his bed this morning and I had to wash his cover - I had no flipping choice!! I had also hung it out on the line for a couple of hours to dry it as well
So my theory is that I have not washed clothes I have washed the dogs bed cover in an emergency and thats it. If something does happen well it does!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Yes, all my family believed this. However, the last 40 years have proved them wrong!
Same for Good Friday because "enough washing had been done".
I think it was a superstition invented to give exhausted women a day of rest, and so have some sympathy!0 -
I've always been aware that it was bad luck to wash clothes on a certain day of the year, but could never remember what day it was surposed to be.
I hung out the washing today and it dried well enough to just go in the airing cupboard.0 -
I have never washed on New Years' Day. It is an old saying of my Grandma's "Wash on New Years' Day, wash your luck away", probably nonsense, but I have never done it! LOL!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

My mum would say the same thing (she's only 63 though) however, I am not into superstitions and have washed clothes on NYD for several years.0 -
It would certainly been unlucky for us to hang washing out, as it's tipped it down all day! :laugh:0
