Chattmum - have you read Elizabeth Pantley's book - No Cry Sleep Solution? http://www.amazon.co.uk/No-Cry-Sleep-Solution-Through-Foreword/dp/0071381392/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329091316&sr=8-1
It has a number of different gentle techniques to help little ones to sleep.
I don't know if you have researched the effects on babies of using cry it out - but it raises their cortisol levels and isn't good for their brain or emotional development. I know it's hard when you are tired and your baby won't sleep (mine didn't sleep through til 2 and a half and still doesn't sleep well at nearly three and a half so you have my sympathy) - I didn't use the book by the way - i just figured that she would get there in the end and just supported her through it - I found bed sharing helps us.
But really no-one suggests leaving a baby to cry in the day so that they can learn to self soothe and they can't learn to self soothe until they are much older someone has done it for them and they have experienced being soothed. If they cry and cry and then stop it is because they have learnt that it is pointless because no-one is coming (learned helplessness). Surely that is not what anyone wants to teach a child?
I know this is probably the last thing you want to hear and it is written with the best of intentions I'm sorry but I just couldn't bear not to say something. If I can send you any links or information or help in any way please do get in touch.
Best wishes x[/QUOT
Thanks for the comments I will have a look later re the book. I totally hate leaving him crying it knots up my Insides and I get so upset. We are trying this as advised by our health visitor but I refuse to do it during the day so we are still doing huggy cuddles on he sofa in the day. First night he shouted for 55 min but last night only 25 min and is more moaning than crying prob is he seems to like being awake between 2-5am we had to listen to him talking to him self for nearly 3 hrs last night lol but he does already seem to have accepted that he must sleep in his cot now.0 -

FT I don't own my place so I'm not responsible for fixing the boiler or anything. The people that are responsible would rather have someone come out 20 times to repair different parts than put a new boiler in.
Hugs to you Aesop

think you mean -11 degrees PM, otherwise it would be the tropics in your room
hopefully you get to move soon? To better accommodation?
Have some warming hugs.0 -
oh you just reminded me, something freaky happened last night!
DH likes to visit the toilet during the night, usually he doesn't wake me, but as I was struggling to breathe, I was more awake than normal.
So I heard him come out of the bathroom, tiptoe into the bedroom, go round to his side of the bed, and sit on the side, ready to get into the bed.....
I wondered why he had tiptoed into the room, as this is not like him, he just walks normally.......
I hear the toilet flush, the light switch off, and DH walks normally into the room....... gets in the bed and goes to sleep!
