Before it would wash but not spin and then I would clean the filter which is at the back and very hard for me to reach now. It's hotpoint which is 9+ years old with the led screen. The model number in the front has rubbed off.

Our washing machine is a hotpoint (2008 Aquarius), it does not have a filter. Instead, you have to remove the lower panel on the rear with 6x screws, release the dubilee clip and remove the rubber boot from the drum. Inside this is a ball which is just before the pump. We found lots of stuff in here, and now empty it out every 6 months or so.

Our final symtoms were the washing machine completely filling up to above the door, then it pushing the door seal away. It did initially start with the clothes still being soaked after a wash. We suspected that the water could not get pumped out fast enough as the ball was blocked, once the washer stopped spinning the centrugal force would reduce & the water would return into the drum/clothes.

There was a coin blocking our pump pipe, could it be that?

Emptied the thing and found £1.20 and stuff and thought we had solved the problem. That happiness has been short lived as it is just still just filling in the water and then NOTHING.

I think ormus is right, tip it should go. Thank you Alias_Omega once again for pointing me to the the emptying thing.

Thank you everyone for your help

    Nothing,no spin at all.

If the motor brushes haven't been changed in those 9 years, they may have worn.

Does the motor run, but the drum not turn. Inside that little panel, you can see that there is a belt up to the drum from the motor, i dont think they are direct drive you see.

If the motor does not turn, probably the brushes as mentioned above. Should be able to get them out easily if you can see the motor, usually when the motor is in place. If not, its a motor out jobby.

Maybe somethink like this will help..

Is it worth having them changed or just let it go Myser. What I have seen is the thing I think is the motor looks dead. There is a sound like brush when it is suppose to be spinning.
