Concerned about flight (im fat)

Hi,
I was hoping to get a flight down to visit my mum for her Birthday in April (Flight Aberdeen - Leicester) I weigh around 20 stone, a UK size 26ish for my bottom half, 24 on a good day 28 on a bad day.
I'm a bit (LOT) concerned about seating on the plane? Flying with Flybe, normally I would drive, well my other half would drive but its a 10 hour drive and i was just going to do two nights to see mum over her birthday.
Any advice, experience from someone who is a similar size?
I have tried loosing weight. I eat one meal a day, been told I'm not fat enough for help from the NHS and cant afford private. Please i don't want this to turn into a debate about what fat people are aren't entitled to. I just want advice re flight and seating.

Sorry no experience just wanted to say that even to lose weight you need to be eating more than one meal a day!! By doing that your body just goes into starvation mode, seriously. Good Luck0

Hi op, I know your pain! Measure your bottom width and then google the planes/companies seat widths. If you measure a chair (office chair?) you're comfy in, then you should be fine
(I recommend BA for comfy flights and discourage Monarch - they're tiny!).
If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -

I know, just hard. Habit of a life time! Started when I was 15... thought it would make me loose weight, 10 years later and I just cant bring myself to eat more and i have three young kids now so finding time to eat is hard enough.Bankruptcy Supporters Club No.1790 -

Thank you for the advice, I tried googling and all I can find is the seat pitch which i believe is basically leg room... I have e-mailed Flybe asking them about the exact flights and what would happen should I not be able to fit into seats...Bankruptcy Supporters Club No.1790 -
Just a suggestion, but have you considered booking two seats?
Failing that, I've flown hundreds of times and have probably only seen an aircraft full a hand full of times. Please don't take this the wrong way but if you managed to board the plane first and sat next to the window, I doubt someone would take the seat next to you unless there was no other option.
I really don't mean that in a bad way, I'm just giving you practical advice.
Best of luck x0 -
Ok, I looked at FlyBe on Wikipedia and found out which planes they fly and then looked on Seat Guru to find similar planes. Seat Guru don't do FlyBe but other airlines fly the same planes and the seat width is 17-18.25 inches wide.
Hope that helps.
Re. weightloss, I'm hefty and I've been watching my diet for years. I've found a lot of info on the Live Strong website and yes, you're not eating enough and then probably starving so you won't be losing weight. Weight watchers or Scottish Slimmers will give you support if you need it.0 -

Absolutely considered it yes, being able to afford it another matter... Flights are only £66 return, but at the minute I'm not working and money is very tight. Also, if i booked two seats are they guaranteed to be next to each other? I mean i cant have one butt check on one row and my other 3 rows in front and on the other side iykwim lol
If I book it I will absolutely plonk myself next to a window as soon as i possibly can!
I looked up the flight numbers and i believe that the plane is a De Havilland DHC-8-400 Dash 8Q although I cant seem to find seat width for the planeI'm still waiting for a reply from Flybe although i expect it wont be until after the holidays

Do not worry you will be fine, I am about same size and fly every year. Just make sure you ask for seat belt extension when the staff are checking everyone's strapped in , your safety and comfort is important do not try and squeeze into normal belt if it is to tight. although I have been with ne airline and did not need extension, cannot remember who t was.
As t short flight and as another poster says if plane not full you may not have anyone beside you just relax and look forward to your trip.TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -

I know with Virgin you can buy an extra seat if you are a larger person.
The second seat cost is calculated at the lowest applicable fare and you dont pay any extra passenger taxes, fees or surcharges on the second seat.0 -
Thanks doelani Thats really helpful to hear!pennylane99 wrote: »I know with Virgin you can buy an extra seat if you are a larger person.

I hope Flybe come back to me with an option like that, I really dint mind paying extra, I just cant afford two sets of fairs / taxes / fees
Thank you everyone you've been really helpful... I'm going to try and work out if i can fit into a 17 inch chair once the kid go to bed! Its a tight fit in the cinema e.t.c not the most comfortable place but I can manage for an hour so hopefully 17 inches wont be TOO tight...Bankruptcy Supporters Club No.1790
