I have dyed my hair for years forgot what 'natural' colour I am.
Now I am going grey, and still like my hair light blonde, I have been using 'Belle colour and it's great, it blends the grey 100% and it is not noticeable , need to do roots about every 2 months but it is no problem and its cheap I buy it when it is on offer and stock up.
Please don't go Black, it is so harsh on the skin tones and makes you look older!

I've got naturally red hair. However, I'm getting lighter and turning white around the ears and temples.

Blonde dyes have lightened my hair and caused an ugly yellow cast, so I recently tried L'Oreal's Sublime Mousse 'Flaming Copper' shade for the natural tones and highlights.

The picture on the packet did suggest that it was closest to my natural shade.

Um, riiiiiiiiight. I look like I should be in a kilt screaming "See you, Jimmy!". It's dreadful. It's orange. I look lile a defective Belisha beacon.

Luckily, I keep my hair short so it won't be long before I can put something else on.

But what do I do after this wears out? There's not enough white hair to just let it be, there too much light/white hair to let it go and I can't afford to get it professionally done once a month.

Can anyone recommend a decent dye/shader/toner that doesn't make me look like Russ Abbot's sidekick or like a television on the wonk?
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

I use a dark blonde semi- permanent, makes the grey hairs look like golden highlights in my brown hair.

I used henna for years until it stopped covering the gray that started growing. My hairdresser suggested that I had blonde and brown top foils, which I did for about 10 years. However my hair started to become very dry and brittle and very blonde, so I decided to ditch the blonde and just have the brown top foils. So now my hair has shiny silver 'highlights' in with the brown rather than being frizzy & 'blonde'.

I've found it! Clairol Nice 'n' Easy Perfect 10 Medium Reddish Blonde.

Blonde my ****! It's a shade of light (-ish) red and it's near perfect.

Of course, now I've found the near as dammit perfect hair dye, it's getting harder to find..........

  • In the end I decided to use Nice & Easy semi permanent in Black.

Everyone has commented how nice it looks & how much I suit it more than the reddish shades I was using previously.

Only problem now is even tho it's a semi, my hair won't take a different shade. The greys are showing through thick & fast (not long after I have dyed the hair).

I like JC9297 idea of using a dark blonde semi, but can't fathom out how to colour over black.

You might need to use a colour remover if you want to use a lighter colour without waiting for the black to fade, or you need to touch up your roots with the same colour.
  • I use a really good hair dye but since I am dyeing it I am tempted to dye it bright pink, or striking red so long as it suited for a style revolution.
The other thought is I see many elegant women who wear grey with style. That too is worth noting along with their styles for our vintage styles.

  • My hair has a definite "Mallen Streak" right where my parting is. I've used permanent colour but it doesn't "take" there and ends up a bright coppery colour. Natural hair is mid/dark brown.

Temporary hair colours work until the next wash :(
I tried those shampoos which leave a residue of colour - didn't work but my husband who was greying in a very distinguished way, managed to get his hair dark brown (but denied using my shampoo :rotfl: )

Almost tempted to go see a colourist in a salon but know it'll be loadsamoney!
