that is bog all use unless they also observed the other interviews.
it will make sure the management do the interview in a fair way and score it right. they cant change the other scores now so if mine are higher than any of those set on they will have to change something.

We obviously hadn't realised how much power your union has in the workplace. In a way I feel sorry for the managers, since there really isn't much point in them carrying out interviews at all, if their decision is going to be over-ruled anyway.

Good luck with the interview, I hope it all works out for you.

OP do you work in a closed shop? I feel very uncomfortable with the union being allowed access to all the scoring for other candidates, especially if they are not members of said union.

my union have said this might happen which is why they are checking if they can sit in and observe the interview to make sure its fair.

It'll be perfectly fair to any observer - you can be sure of that
They still won't like you or recommend you for the post though

All forms of closed shops in the UK are strictly illegal under section 137(1)(a) of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992

I had a feeling they were, but the fact the OP states the union are effectively vetting the selection process for a role could suggest that they want a closed shop.

Its not a closed shop. some are in the union and some arent. only the union steward who represents there members can look at the other scores as this is part of the grevance process so both sides can see its carried out fairly. im not supposed to see the other scores just know that my rep has. its only the same as disaplinary where both sides get to see what is said by the other one.

Management have a matrix to score on which they have to go by going on what is said at the interview. they cant mark me down if i answer the questions or it will be obvious they have going off the matrix. they cant say i didnt say stuff if the union is there as a witness so if i get more points than the worst one who got one of the offers they have to give me one of the jobs. its really there fault for not doing it right to start with.
