We obviously hadn't realised how much power your union has in the workplace. In a way I feel sorry for the managers, since there really isn't much point in them carrying out interviews at all, if their decision is going to be over-ruled anyway.
Good luck with the interview, I hope it all works out for you.

OP do you work in a closed shop? I feel very uncomfortable with the union being allowed access to all the scoring for other candidates, especially if they are not members of said union.0

my union have said this might happen which is why they are checking if they can sit in and observe the interview to make sure its fair.
It'll be perfectly fair to any observer - you can be sure of that
They still won't like you or recommend you for the post though0 -

All forms of closed shops in the UK are strictly illegal under section 137(1)(a) of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

I had a feeling they were, but the fact the OP states the union are effectively vetting the selection process for a role could suggest that they want a closed shop.0 -
