basill - Advanced options will most probably be offered in the future. It's understandable that many people are put off with cashback deals, especially with the bad press regarding them recently.

Anon - I think that's an interesting question. At present, it's definitely a case of including the retailers that cover a large proportion of the market, are big names, and reputable. It may be that other retailers will be included, but I firmly believe that the feedback given regarding each company should be taken into consideration. There are a few big names that are currently missing, but will be included in the future.

Not wishing to be too cautious, but you probably need an explanation about contracts being with the retailers and networks (rather than your site) and possibly a disclaimer of some description (covering the contractual relationship, accuracy of data, availability of deals etc). Given the issues that sometimes arise (even with the "reputable" retailers - see the discussion boards about OSPS, e2save and Mobileshop), particularly with cashback deals, this will make it clear to visitors to your site that you are providing a comparison service only.

    Anon,

Agreed. There needs to be a full wrap on the site going into detail regarding the points you've made.

As this is still in beta, my focus is still within the functionality and data held within the site - i.e., whether this is useful information that people can use to make an informed decision when purchasing a mobile phone contract.

  • Ace tool, although i couldn't find my current T-Mobile Flext plan on there, mayb cos you need to specify the number of mins and txt? Also is it possible to add x net anytime mins to the options? Also once it's live, will it show whether phones are in stock as the 2 links I clicked on showed the right phone (out of stock), but they showed the wrong network ,o2 instead of orange!

I'd definately use this tool to choose my next mobile phone as it was easy to use, showed all the info i needed and was quick to use, hope to see the live version made a permanent feature on this site!

Ah yes...that old T-Mobile Flext chestnut! It's actually a very thorny problem that noone deals with appropriately.

To be fair to MobilePhoneChecker, I am unaware of a single price comparison website that does justice to the flexible nature of these deals. Websites always seem to take the easy way out by simply displaying both the maximum number of texts AND the maximum number of minutes (usually with the word "or" in between).

Sites that allow you to search for a deal based on minutes & texts can actually return grossly misleading results when it comes to the T-Mobile Flext tariffs. If you have a favourite price comparison site, why not test the validity of this assertion by typing in 600 minutes and 1000 texts. I guarantee that you will get a range of Flext 35 (12 months) and Flext 35 (18 months) deals in the results set.

The reason any such results would be misleading is because 600 minutes + 1000 texts would cost the user £220 whereas the cost allowances for the abovementioned tariffs are only £120 and £180 respectively.

rss feed capabilities would be nice and useful (if possible). ideally if you could do a customsied search and then rss feed that so everytime new deals come up my rss feed would show new deals.

e2save's T-Mobile Flext tariff's are now listed on the Mobile Phone Checker.

There is now real-time tariff calculation occuring with these tariffs, depending on the amount of minutes and texts you initially select.

For example, if you choose 100 minutes and 100 texts, that equates to around £30 of "allowance". With the Flext 25 tariff, you have £40 of allowance, so with the remaining £10 allowance, it calculates that you can have an extra 50 minutes, so the results are amended accordingly.
