CW2 I totally agree with this!! Since paying off my cards I've not managed to save any extra money although in theory at least there should be a lot more "spare" each month, but as I don't *need* to pay anything off it gets frittered :(

Saying that though I have managed to put money back onto my cards :o Not more than I can afford to clear (and I get Amazon points for it :p) but still more than I NEED to be spending, and I have to get back in the mindset of SAVING money, not just spending it because the option is there!!

I've been working like a LOON this week doing loads of overtime, and would like to be able to stop at some point, as it was only ever supposed to be a short term thing, but I don't trust myself with money at the moment to be able to do that - at least with the extra pennies coming in from this, it means if I do totally !!!! up my spending for the month, come payday I can put things straight again - and actually making a big boost to my savings would be good!

Hi Rubywhatashmoo! I am so glad its not just me, I've been really struggling with it and looking back over my spending diary this month, I've just been frittering all my spare cash away; whereas that would normally have gone on to my credit card! Why is it so difficult to save?! Well onwards and upwards, I figure now I've identified the problem, I just need to fix it... I think you should definitely drop the extra work if you can - you deserve a reward for your hard work, why don't you challenge yourself to stick to a tight budget for next month and if you do it, then drop the hours as you know you can do it going forward! I'll report back next month on my attempt to become a true saver!!

I'm not an official member of your club, but I do peer in occasionally to keep me going! I'm on track with my debts: £1,000 a month (on top of mortgage payments). Woohoo!
    Credit Card (Mar 2011: £11,171; Mar 2012: £14,494; April 2012: £13,329) :(
    Mortgage (Mar 2011: £199,200; Mar 2012: £190,340; April 2012: £189,635)
Debt Free date: May 2013
:xmastree: Clear debts by December 2012: £3,000/£12,000
  • I don't know if this will be ofhelp to any one trying to clear loans, but my plan for oh's loan (once his card is clear) is to clear it with a cash super balance transfer at 0% and then pay down the card like mad to clear. We did this at xmas to transfer his tesco card debt to a 0% balance on his mint card. We had to do it that way as they are both rbs card.

    HTH and makes sense:p

Thanks for that, that's a really interesting idea, might give the bank a call and see what I could do...

Hi everyone, I'd like to join this challenge please. We have £6800 left to pay off, as I paid off £3300 of our debt yesterday. Is it ok if I cheat and put our starting amount as £10,100 and that we have paid off £3300. I will feel a lot more motivated if it looks like I've paid off a big chunk already....
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone that posts on here

    Hi all,

Well I've not had a very MSE weekend at all!! I went on a Spa Day on Sat as an early birthday/late mothersday present to myself ;) It was fab & included 2 course lunch & 2 treatments for £109. We even went in the gym for an hour and I was horrified at how unfit I am. Last October I completed the couch to 5 K programme & now I cannot jog for more than 2 mins without gasping for breath :(

Yesterday we renewed our Merlin Annual passes & upgraded DS's to a premium to get the free parking. Its a lot of money, but we live close to Warwick Castle & Alton Towers is only an hour away so we do get lots of use from them.

    Welcome to Mrs Pee

I'm off to catch up with the thread now - hope everyone is OK :j

    Everyone's paying off debt today!
I've got no debt payments to report but I did start doing the Couch to 5K programme this morning. How are others going with it?

Ooh - how is it going so far Catmort? I need to start this again, especially now that the mornings are lighter. I need to be back in the house before 7am so that DH can leave for work.
I just need to get motivated to start....:o

With regards to the Florida trip (ruthy?), I'd be honest with them, tell them that you've booked a once in a lifetime holiday, that you can't afford for him to go on the school trip and if they don't like it then tough you'll take the unauthorised absence. Year 8 isn't a SATs year, and you can easily make up any lost work for that week.

    Thanks Kerri

Lol - if only it were a once in a lifetime trip:o:o We've been 3 times in the last 4 years & I'm totally addicted! Last time we were out there I decided it was a great idea to buy into the Disney Timeshare scheme & thats why I am in such a lot of debt.

I have written a letter to school today & said that DH has to attend a conference on the Friday (small white lie) and we have decided to tag our holiday onto his business trip. I also said that DS wouldn't be going on the PGL trip due to this & the fact that the school have organised 3 similar trips in the last 5 years. I will await their stroppy response.

In the short term though, I have saved £285 by him not going!!!:rotfl::rotfl:However I cannot reduce my debts with it cos I never had the money in the first place!
