We've booked a week in Wales in June but we're planning on taking all our own food (HM meals etc) so we don't eat out and plan to do lots of walking/lazing on the beach, weather permitting. If there's plenty to do on site/nearby that won't cost anything/much (beaches, on site pool, entertainment) maybe you should consider it. Especially as you've worked so hard debt-busting, this could be a treat for yourself.
Do you feel your debt is manageable and you can afford a little break from debt busting? You don't want to spend all holiday worrying about how you could've paid off some debt.
Or maybe see if you can earn a bit extra by fleabaying etc to pay for the break xxx
Its actually a really hard decisionIm disabled with M.E so we dont tend to do much when we are away anyway, the on site pool tends to become our home or £1 in the 2p slots before an icecream and back for the entertainment or a dvd in the caravan.
This is the time that Dh usually becomes the voice of reason as I always think 'I could have paid that off the CC' where as he's very much 'i've worked 60 - 70 hour weeks for the last 8 months, I need a break and going away does your M.E so much good'
I have nothing left to ebay unfortunately, I sold everything all ready and paid it off the CC's :rotfl::rotfl:SPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £225/£10000 -
There's an argument either way for having a break-on one hand you'll be spending money that could go off other debts, but on the other hand it would be a nice break away from debt busting and might make you even more motivated when you get back? Me and OH are going away in October but it's to get married too not "just" a holiday
we really should hav put the money towards a house deposit though and nipped down to the registry office!

Lol if id had my way, we'd have done a registry office jobby when we got married, it was all DH 'we have to get married in a church, its the proper way to do it!' Im totally unreligious so felt a bit of a fraud, but Dh is a christian so he felt wrong NOT getting married in a church :rotfl:
I was completely honest with the vicar when we met him, told him 'im in the I haven't got a clue club' but he was totally fine about it and it was a lovely service. Our entire wedding including 3 week honeymoon to australia for 3 (DS had to come with us lol), 40 guest reception, cars, dress etc cost us £2k, now if I can pull that off, I should be able to pull off a cheap weekend break shouldnt I!
Oooo set myself a challengeSPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £225/£10000 -
Ok am I completely insane? ive been sat here this morning looking at booking a weekend break for the 4 of us  I was looking at one of those caravan sites, and if we went for 3 nights at the end of april it would cost £165 for the top caravan type for the 4 of us
BUT I have debt to pay!! I could pay that £165 off a credit card . . . BUT with all the debt paying I know that we will not go on holiday this year at all, we didnt have an actual holiday last year, just that 2 nights away in skegness just me and DH. We havent been away as a family in pro 3 years now . . . Someone tell me im crazy to be even contemplating spending money of taking them away for a break
I don't think it's crazy at all....but as others have said, only if you can do it cheaply then there's no harm in it if it's not going to really interfere with clearing debts. It's not worth going if you're going to worry about the money it's costing because you won't enjoy yourself. I know all people are different but I feel like you have to have a treat of some sort or I find I get really disheartened. Like being on a diet and every now and again I've got to have a humungous slice of my moms lemon cheesecake.... because blimey it makes me knuckle down again afterwards
We've always had a couple of Sun holidays every year. Last year we did a week in travelodges in Scotland with sale rooms and lived mostly on things you either didn't have to cook or could do with boiling water alone to save on eating out. We only ate out at breakfast because the local T0by carvery was doing bogof breakfasts and it filled us up so we didn't bother with lunch :j0 -

Sounds a perfectly good reason to go away to me
I have nothing left to ebay unfortunately, I sold everything all ready and paid it off the CC's :rotfl::rotfl: must admit you have been a bit of a fleabay addict:):):):):):):):):)

not read through most replies yet, but in 10 years time when the kids are grown up and you look back whats going to give you better memories? A lovely weekend away with the kids or knowing you paid youd CC off a few weeks/month/couple months earlier?I say go for it, life is too short :T

I know the feeling about the holiday! Husband is coming round to his lightbulb moment and realises if he knuckles down he might get everything paid off soon. Though his debt is half of mine currently! So if he doesn't achieve it by Christmas he'll be in trouble.
Jakes mum we are looking at a week away with the dogs and the 3 of us in a caravan this year. We haven't been away as a family for 4 years now. So I'm thinking we need a break! Though now stuck between a rock and a hard place as might a bit of good news come the end of June.
So unsure if I go ahead with sorting a passport out for the little one or will I come to regret spending that money when it all falls through!
Call me a pessimist but having been dealing with property oversea's and waiting for one to sell for nearly 4 years you learn not to get your hopes up!0 -
Ok, I'm not part of this challenge, but it is what I'm aiming to do, so I've been watching all your stories with interest before I jump in.
not a great introduction, but as an alternative idea - Jake's mum, why don't you decide to have the weekend away BUT instead of going for this side of the summer peak season, aim for the other side, much later on in the year when it get's cheaper again? just a suggestion, but you'll be much, much, less in debt than now(we all will be!), and it's something to look forward to/aim towards for most of the year,
I tend to have my holidays late in the year if possible (camping in the UK, nothing glam, sunny or exotic!) know if I had my holiday now, by august I would be thoroughly fed up with seemingly everyone bobbing off during the summer, and mine so long ago in the past, and just the long run to christmas ahead of me.
Additionally, that way, you save the interest in between now and then on that £126, and may even find a way to get some extra funds towards it.
May not work for you of course, but a different idea.:AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
Jakes mum you sound like you really need this holiday. Like others have said before you can make it as cheap as possible. Sandwiches to take out in the day and a flask etc. When we went to Skegggy a few yrs back we took a few disposible (sp) bbqs so that was a couple of nights teas and kids loved it. You can make such fantastic memories to the cost of finishing your debt 1/2 months early. I know what I would do but in your heart of hearts you know what is best for you and your family.
