It's 1.4, confusingly called "Dsi" - and get ON AVERAGE mid to high 40's, depending upon mix of driving (we're very rural so depends on how many runs over 5 miles or so we do).0 -
That threw me, at first glance I thought they did a diesel, but now I realise they don't, we're replacing a (admittedly smaller) diesel that give55+, so we want the 60mpg I would expect from a newer car.0

OOHHhhhh ........ and (important) - mpg depends on what you carry in the car too!
Sorry, but - well, on winding roads like ours that really does make a difference.
Both to mpg AND to tyres - here in Lincolnshire, a set of tyres a year has been my average (That's about 12K), & it makes absolutely NO DIFFERENCE whether you buy premium or budget.
Honestly though, I'd buy another Jazz in a flash - says my heart.
My head (economics) says Fiesta .....
though the Jazz has cost so little to maintain - up until now.:cool:0 -
That's why we are looking at Fiesta's.
I've done my research & drives too.
What a headache.0 -
Of those on your list I'd go for
1 Honda Jazz first - versatile seating for carrying passengers and large items, good economy and high on the reliability ratings. If things do go wrong then could be expensive to repair. (do they do a diesel version?)
2. Ford Fiesta - good handling and driving, reasonable reliable and most parts inexpensive if it needs to be repaired.
After testing several new vehicles recently I have gone for a new 1.4 petrol Jazz as it had more ticks in the positive side of the page than any of the others and provided a big car feel on the motorway.
I have a friend that has an older Jazz and travels to Germany in it a couple of times a year and is pleased with its all round abilities0 -
what about a fiat bravo 1.4 t-jet, or the 1.9 multijet, 57-08 plate kicks out at about £5195 at franchise dealers level smaller dealers at around £4700. seem to hold price well now in lower year ranges. its slightly bigger than a punto i would say same size if not a tad smaller than the new astra.
1.4 turbo can return impressive MPG for a 1.4 turbo and the 1.9 multijet kicking out around 38-49mpg realistically.
nice drive for a fiat interior is well defined and dont look like it made of recycled plastic early models were recalled for suspension so mindfull upon purchase of one but other than that i'd say it would do your 150k no probs and going abroad with it parts still widely available to you.0 -
We've a zafira as well, had it from nearly new for 7 years, never missed a beat or had any problem.
Poor economy though, so while it would be nice to have a second car that could do the long runs, the zafira can do from 30 to 40 on the motorway, so to get another middle sized car it has to be a lot better, or we may as well go for a small one.
The zafirais sub 30 on local trips though.0 -

We'll have a look at them.

hiya,
i have a 55 modus (1.4 16v petrol) and to be honest - it's like marmite to me at the moment, some days i don't mind it but some days i hate it lol.
it's quite nippy and it feels really roomy inside for such a small car, the back seats move forward in mine (not sure if this is every model) and you can fold the middle seat up and push them together to move it right back (so the kids can't kick the back of the seats! argh that drives me nuts!!!) the boot is a fair old size for a small car - i have the boot chute on mine so it's easy to get things in and out if you can't open the whole thing, and double sunroof makes it very bright, the seats are quite high up so ideal if you struggle to get in and out of lower cars.
bad things i find is that the speedo and bits are in the middle of the dash do rather than looking straight at it you have to look slightly to the left, the bonnet is only (what feels like) a foot long and when you open it you have a huge plastic thing covering half of the engine so you can only get to half the stuff without taking it off, i have heard that if the front bulbs go they are a nightmare to replace, the clutch has gone in mine and its only done 45k miles (not sure if thats a good or bad mileage to go tho?) the speakers are really rather naff and i can only manage 31mpg (that could be the way i drive tho, mix of town and motorway driving)
hope this helps?
oh just to add, me previous car was a citroen c3 (02) and that was awesome economically! if mpg is what you are mainly looking for i would suggest maybe a diesel c3? the only reason i have a different car now is because a lady kindly decided to drive into my rear passenger side sending me head on into some barriers writing off my carIs it a bird?....... Is it a plane?............... No, it's the Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmodus!0 -
I think the Modus has come out top, I'm looking for a decent 1.5 diesel now, seems a reasonable spec on all of them, apart from a couple without a/c.
They're a bit few and far between though.0
