Hi Lippy, welcome to the thread!
i see from your sig that you have a £5,500 emergency fund, well done! Thats exactly what i want to do, have a fund for emergencies.
I have many plans this year, many of which invove spending money, so i will be having a very tightly budgeted 12 months. But thats all good as it'll be worth it in the end!!0 -
Thanks Cleggie. Its my "pretend I dont have" money, for those horrible moments in life which seem to sneek up on you.
I like the "pretend you don't have it" strategy.
I used to play the same sort of tricks on myself with sweets as a youngster.
Didn't know I'd be doing the same with money years on!Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -
I'll be joining you! (well I've been doing it for a few months now) - what I do is at the end of the week i transfer at least £5 plus any extra pence into my savings account. also the day before payday i transfer everything out except for £20 (usually its only around £10-15 anyway but every little helps!)0

I'll join you, as it will keep me savings motivated. I also have very little money to save, but every little helps. I've got to pay off a holiday, but joining this tread will stop me spending any more money.0

Hi Pearl, welcome to the thread!
Where are you going on holiday?0 -
Hi Cleggie - it's a week in wales.0

I think I've found a suitable savings account to open, I NEED to have a branch operated passbook one to make it feel like 'real' saving (and then I can't just transfer it online if I had a sudden urge to spend it). Both the Chelsea and Yorkshire building societies have 'Christmas 2012' accounts with fairly reasonable interest and I think a passbook so I'm off this week to open one! Can open with £10 too
They are aimed at small savers as the most you can put in within one year is £1200 or else they move it to a lower interest account.
I can't believe I've left myself with no savings at all, always as a kid I had some!0 -
Morning all!
I put another £6 into my ISA today. Its not much, but it all adds up!!
I also get paid on Monday. I will be putting £400 in the ISA then. It would have been an extra £1000, but i am clearing some debt instead.0 -
Well done Lippy. I am looking forward to getting paid on Monday so that i can clear the debt and save a bit!0
