A spending diary is a very good idea. Write down EVERY penny you spend. You'll find some waste, so cut it out and save more ;-)0

Yes, it's a leap year next year :T0 -
Thanks everyone for your support!
I think that i would like to aim small and start with a savings target of £5000.0 -
I will join you too. Just saving a few pounds a month would be great0

Do you have any particular amount you are aiming for Karen?0

I see some people are aiming for thousands of pounds a year on other threads but thats just out of my league... £5 a day is really alot for me but it's an 'aim'.
£5 a day is £1825 in a year. So, not far off the 'thousands'.
If you save £5 every other day you're there. Can't be too difficult unless you have high interest debts.Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -
I think some people are forgetting 2012 is a leap year 366 * £5 = £18300

Just added my target to my signature.
I only have 2 debt left, both 0%, am clearing one off on Jan 9th, and half of the other, so thats £50p.m i'll be saving. Not sure if i am going to save that or use it...i'll see how it goes.0 -
I find it hard to even save £1 by the end of the month.
That's because if I've got £2 in my purse I get the bus instead of walkOr I go round the shop and buy chocolate.
This month will be tricky as I have overspent a bit but will still aim to save something - need to keep the £100 I have to pay for our weekend away later this month (we don't go away for more than 1 night a year at the moment due to lack of work for OH!).
Our dishwasher broke several months ago and we don't have the money for a repair or a replacement, and the washing machine is the same age - 9 years old - so is quite possibly going to go the same way.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
newlywed- i am in a similar situation, my tumble dryer is making a very funny sound and is taking forever to dry stuff, so is on its way out. But without savings i cant afford to replace it if/when it goes wrong. i just have to hope that it doesnt go wrong before i have saved up a little.0
