  • Agree with grumbler, If it's O2 Locked it should work with Tesco Mobile & GiffGaff but not the other way around.

Tesco seem to lock the handsets just to Tesco Mobile, even though they use the O2 Network.

I bought a phone from Tesco (locked to them) - after three months called them and they unlocked for free :D

One more question - I like the Samsung Galaxy Ace phone but it is locked to 3 - does that mean you can get it unlocked from one of those places on the high street, or is it really locked into 3?

I too have seen a Samsung smartphone locked to 3 from Carphone Warehouse and want to stay on Giffgaff. I've searched for info about unlocking phones on 3 network but come up with answers like "OK for calls & texting but internet won't work" and "3 sims are glued in place".

So I'm totally confused so I'll be watching this for more help.

  • Thanks for all the advice guys. I haven't bought the phone yet although I've been back in to O2 and Carphone Warehouse for a look. I could get the phone unlocked for £140 in cw, which includes a top up of twenty pounds with t-mobile that I really don't want, otherwise it's a lot more expensive. O2 weren't sure if giff gaff sim would work okay without trying it, but didn't offer to find out about it (!).

For the time being I think i will just wait a bit longer and see if anything changes to bring the price down a little from 140.
