What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I have a very different relationship with alcohol - I like to drink a little but often. However that can be bad for you too - say a large glass of wine = 3 units = 7 days = 21 units which = unhealthy.

I've never liked the feeling of being drunk or drinking too much. However, a little too often can be bad for you too.

Which is why I'm a cutter/downer and why counting AFDs and units works fo me.:)

    Thanks Shaggy

I drank often, but a lot and often! I always wanted to be like you and be able to moderate, but I couldn't. Moderation with alcohol is not possible for me.
I am good at moderating with food, work, exercise, spending, etc, but where alcohol is concerned, there is no control at all.
And that's that. It is what it is. I tried for many years to moderate my drinking without success.
Thus my limit is zero. Not a drink on my birthday, no champagne at weddings, etc. Nothing.

I wasn't able just to stop drinking. When I tried that in the past, I always missed drinking (especially if other people were having a drink).
That's why I needed (and still need) to change myself so I no longer even want a drink. That's the key to my sobriety, and it means I am no longer white-knuckling it on a daily basis try to notch up AF days.

Thanks GC - in an ideal world I would be happy to drink say a third to half a bottle of wine every night - come in from work/go the pub - pour a glass .But that's about 21 units to 35 units every week and the recommended is 14!

So I can stop after one or two drinks, that's not my problem so much - I just want to have one or two drinks tooooo often iyswim.

This thread helps me - it makes me have AFDs and I also count my units. Mostly I don't think about it too much. It's just part of my life now - like counting calories!

For anyone wanting to lose weight. I've discovered myfitnesspay. It's brilliant! You input your food and exercise and it tells you how much weight you'll lose in 5 weeks and what how many calories to eat to lose/maintain your weight. I've been on it for 3 days and I've lost 2lbs already! It also converts your exercise into calories for you so the more you do, the more you can eat. X

15/22 AF for me. Loving the two smilies I've accumulated now, thanks!

Went to the pictures last night to see The Quartet. A quite gentle film, rather like the series Waiting for God, but Billy Connelly was tiresome. The last film I went to see was The Kings Speech, so you'll see I'm not a regular cinema-goer. OH won't go anywhere most of the time, which I hate.

He has agreed to come and see Tanita Tikaram with me on Thursday, which I'm looking forward to. I drive pretty much everywhere, so no temptation in the interval to have anything alcohol based.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
