I am sorry for your loss Grey Pilgrim and I feel for the way your FIL had to suffer - we had the same situation with my Mum - hideous.

With time I do think that the laws will be changed to allow the relief of suffering for those whose health is so bad - look to Holland and Switzerland as examples.

I do understand the use of beer as a temporary anaesthetic but don't let it slide too much and take care

Sorry for your loss GP. and that you had to watch him suffer. When we lost my FIL last year the community nurse that came to the house was excellent. She obviously knew the time was close. They increased his pain relief just enough so that when he went to sleep he didn't wake up again. Yes we had to watch and wait for him to take his last breath, which was awful, but we know he didn't suffer.
And you are so right about talking about it! FIL had been ill. We all thought he knew how long he had left, accepted it, and made arrangements but was keeping it to himself (he was always a very organised man). As it was he hadn't done anything. I had to take a business card from the funeral directors who came to collect him on behalf of the coroner.

Nothing new to report in the Rainman household. I've been using the drinkaware website to track MrR's drinking. I'm just wondering how to show him the info from it.

Stay safe in the sunshine everyone, and have a fab weekend :D

    Hi all,

GP, sorry to hear your news, think i'd be exactly the same in the circumstances, big hugs to you.

I marvel at the people who can go without drinking for ages. My limit is about 3-4 days, all school days and I havent yet been through a weekend without some. Good luck to those trying that out this weekend.

I had another AF day on Wednesday, so 1 more please Shaggy.

I had a bad day yesterday, lots of things going on and I did what I usually do drink too much and binge/purge. I felt it this morning I can tell you. Feeling very  with myself. I can't quite kick this awful awful habit.

Blood was taken on wednesday and I will know the results on monday, although I might ring up later to see if they are in. I have a chest x-ray for a week's time. Fingers crossed with that one.

I feel very very tired today and have housework to do and accounts to finish, plus a swim to fit in all before 3pm :eek:

Oh Greypilgrim, loads of hugs for you, I watched the same with my Nanna, devastating and as you say an act punishable under law to any other species.
I also make a plea, do consider donation and do make people aware of your wishes, most of the time eyes can be donated even if other medical issues prevent donation of other organs and tissues.
Also please do organise your thoughts as to what you want to happen or at least state you have no preferences so people aren't more stressed, it was awful watching the discussions between Mum and her sisters about funeral and so on arrangements.
Also folks MAKE A WILL - and don't include daft catch all clauses like "all other chattels will be split between the parties mentioned in this will" my life that has caused some ructions and utterly unintended consequences in our family!

MrsRainman - perhaps a sneaky print out and leave (by the loo?) where he "accidentally" finds it?

I claim 2 more making 14 please muchly thank you kindly!

i learnt something yesterday which has stopped me drinking. My liver function test is really crap due to my drinking(and some medicine i have to take) and this has caused my 'bad' cholestrol to rocket so its either stop or risk sudden death.
Also i was spending a fortune on booze which was just being wee'd away instead of being used for more positive things!

de1amo, i don't know what to say but wanted to respond to your post. how do you feel about it all?

I wish you well and hope your health improves over time.

My mum heavily drank for 30 odd years and finally stopped just over a year ago. She went yesterday to see the Liver consultant who said her liver is now absolutely fine and fully recovered, i'm so proud of her and pleased she's done it. Its still an adjustment for her and us when we are celebrating or having bbq's etc. It used to be hard, but i think those types of situations are getting easier for her.

as far as i can work out cholesterol rises to protect the liver, it acts as a defence--just over half of males in the uk have raised cholesterol and unless you get a thorough blood test it can go undetected so i would conclude that the liver may go unscathed but the cholesterol cause a heart attack?

Hi, i'm not familiar with you and Mr R, but would like to say hi :j

Does Mr R know that you are concerned about his drinking? I was wondering if the best time to show him your chart would be in the morning. I'd say the time when it won't go down to well would be evening as he will either be drinking or wanting one.

Good luck, please let us know how you get on.

i dont actually live in the uk and have become very detached from what intake is like these days. My wife was concerned over me drinking 3 or 4 x 500cl bottles of beer on 3 nights a week.---she was right whereas i thought i was average!---i used to drink far more when i was in the uk and not married!!
