Hi LHS sorry only just saw your post, good luck with your journey, you should start a diary too to keep you motivated and to look back on. I am always amazed how far I have come when i look back! Just try and not accidently OP your savings lol

Had a bit of a nightmare last night, kids mentioned that the boiler was making a noise but then said it sounded like it was coming from the bathroom (boiler in 3rd bedroom) so i just thought it was the cistern filling up or the boiler was making a noise cos the heating was on so thought nothing of it. This was at 8.30pm. I went up about 12.45am and realised the boiler was making a noise like a hot tap was on so went and checked them all and then the last room I checked was the downstairs loo and it was all steamy and there was a flood all over the floor!! The pipe under the sink had come off and water was storming out all over the place! This must have been going on for hours without me knowing!!!! Couldnt get the water turned off at first and eventually turned the iso valve to stop the water. As it was late couldnt do anything but then neighbour came round this morning and sorted the pipe out for me. I had about 6 huges towels absolutely drenched and the room now smells of wet dog lol. The sink cupboard is slightly damaged but the floor is tiled and the skirting boards seem ok thankfully. So hopefully the only cost I am going to have is a months worth of gas (hot water and boiler ticking over all that time) and water in one evening!! :( I think my next bill is going to huge for both!

hope the damage wasn't too bad !

I see you making good progress with reducing you mortgage

After sitting on a interest only mortgage for 12 years. I decided Sept 11, after 12 months of being out of work, to tackle the mortgage once I found a new job. I'm now looking to shave around 5 years off the mortgage...all being well

Good Luck with that, my friend is on IO and I scream at her to come off it but she has been so used to paying so little and having the extra money. I think she thinks that when she sells it she will be in profit still but realistically she is just renting off the bank and the house isnt worth as much (or poss same) as when she bought it anyway. A lot of people argue about the pros and cons but I guess it really boils down to your circumstances and what you can afford at the time.

Well done Pammy, that's great :T
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    Thanks GG.

Have just read that Halifax are putting their SVR up from 3.5% to 3.99% to some customers. This would mean that my monthly payments would go from £696 to about £710ish.
I was a bit 'oh no' at first but then thought 3.99 is still not a bad rate to be on and I can still OP as much as a I want to.

I read that today in the paper this morning, the increase won't be happening for 3 months, so hoping that I don't get a letter this week (not that there's much left to pay)
