Returning under DSR

Hi,
This evening i placed an order on Amazon.co.uk but very soon after i stumbled across the same item for less on another website. I went back to amazon (within 2 hours of placing the initail order) to try and cancel, but was given the following response:

If i took delivery of the item and then returned it i understand that i would receive a refund minus the cost of postage for the return, but if i refused delivery as they state in the email would i still be subject to this postage deduction?Unfortunately we weren't able to cancel the following item(s) from your order:

If you refuse delivery then you should not be charged for it being returned to Amazon. The problem can sometimes be in refusing delivery, in that the courier may deliver it to a "SAFE PLACE" rather than giving you the opportunity to refuse. In such a case then it'd be at Amazon's discretion whether the returns cost (even with their pre-printed label) would be deducted from the refund.
I think they're being a bit fly though saying the order cannot be cancelled prior to delivery - especially since the item probably hadn't even been picked when you notified them. Bear in mind though that them despatching the goods enables them to take payment, then refund at their discretion (but within 30 days).

Right well in that case i think i will try to refuse delivery. If it gets delivered to a "safe place" (anywhere from the front door step to the back garden gate from my experience of Yodel!!) then i will probably just keep it, as with the deduction for the return it will mean that the saving would not be as great by getting it from the other website.

Well I would argue that the email states you can return it for a FULL refund.
As the returns label will be prepaid (I believe) then I would expect a full refund to be just that. I would also read the later communication to supercede any previous statement.0 -

If a Prime customer orders at 5:50pm and its still on next day delivery then that 2hr period (1hr and 50 mins after the shipping cutoff for example) means its not surprising that Amazon couldn't cancel.
I have actually found amazon to be one of the more flexible in cancelling orders.
Take play for example, I ordered an item on the 24th of December and it immediately went to processing in warehouse, 5 days later I got a dispatch notification - so they locked out my order for 5 days stopping me from cancelling0 -

I dont think Hintza perhaps phrased it right and I dont think he would've intended to get your back up as much as it seems he has.
It is sods law that if you buy something and keep checking the price, it will invariably come down in price. We all do it from time to time and I imagine we're all gutted when we do check and the price is cheaper elsewhere. There are usually price trackers for nearly anything you buy (especially for games, dvds, music and books are 2 sites I normally use.....https://www.gamestracker.com and https://www.billybargain.co.uk) so it is always worthwhile googling for one prior to ordering just in case.
The point is that pretty much regardless of the price paid and the fact you may have been really happy to get it for the price you paid, if you keep looking and find it cheaper..........you'll no longer be happy with that price and probably not be as happy when you receive the product. Therefore, its quite important to check before ordering so that theres no negativity associated with your purchase.
Advice in hindsight may not help with the current situation but it can help in future and therefore (imo) shouldnt be disregarded as having zero valueYou keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
