Duty VAT etc is charge via C&E on import .
No it isn't. As long as VAT was paid in any country within the EU, there is no VAT to pay. And there is no import duty on goods bought within the EU either. This is a fundamental part of the free trade and movement of goods agreement that exists between member states.
Welcome to one of the actual benefits of being in the European Union.

Duties on the movement of goods within the EU
Goods that have been produced in the European Union (EU), or that have been imported into an EU country with duty paid, are 'in free circulation' within the EU. Customs duty is not payable on acquisitions (imports or purchases) of goods that are in free circulation.

Who Pays the VAT?
For dispatches (sales) to a non VAT-registered business or consumer in another EU country, VAT is charged in the country from which the goods are dispatched.0 -

Still bit hesitant about buying from abroad, for reasons mentioned by Jemma-T, warranty issues etc and shipping costs. I'll update in a few months when i go for it.
Thanks Notmyrealname and PeteMc!0 -
Get the Dell from Dell Business and get 10% off via Quidco http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/monitor-dell-u2711?c=uk&l=en&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1&baynote_bnrank=0&baynote_irrank=1&~ck=dellSearch
Price at the moment is £495 + VAT. Free delivery.
Around £550 once you get your Quidco (make sure you use the Dell Business Quidco link http://www.quidco.com/dell-small-medium-business/ ). It has also been £569 from Amazon UK. It was that price for 3 weeks almost but it's now risen http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003A4H17S
You don't need to be a business to order from that section of Dell's site either just remember you are no longer a private consumer.
You can't beat a bit of 2560x1440 resolution0 -

However buying that way you have no protection under Sale of Goods Act and no rights to return under the Distance Selling Regulations as neither apply for business to business transactions. Thats why they're a lower price - you effectively have no warranty.0 -

I wouldn't worry about it. Warranty claims made to the manufacturer and I can ship a 10kg parcel to Germany for about £5 more than I can send one within the UK. I've bought stuff from Amazon.com in the USA and its cost a few quid to get sent to the UK. Shipping should be free though I'd have thought.0 -
I bought our Wii from Amazon.de fourish year ago, as everywhere was sold out and buyers were making a huge profit on ebay. Anyhoo, we paid the RRP and the extra postage, very happy as we would never have paid the rip off ebay prices.
It arrived safely, quickly and we had no issues with customs at all.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -

I've had over a decade of great service with Dell Business buying monitors, PCs and laptops. They usually try a little harder to solve things and in the case of this behemoth monitor you can't go wrong going with Dell.
Or Amazon of course. Although I'm guessing they'd just refer you to Dell.
Just make sure it's the right monitor for you as many people buy these and quickly regret it. Do you need/can you use those pixels or would a standard 1920x1200 27.5" screen do the job? Lots of good stuff out there with 3 year warranties too http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003EEMDMM I installed a few of those last year and people are very pleased with them. For £214 they're a steal. Yes, there's no 'change of mind' DSR with Dell Business so be aware of that.0
