Buying from Amazon.de

Does anyone know if there are any restrictions from buying items from Amazon.de for example.
A monitor there is about £150 cheaper on there and read a comment in the reviews from a Finnish user who bought from Amazon.de because of this reason.
I'm just wondering can we here in the UK buy from there an not pay extra duty/tax etc? (obviously the shipping will be higher but if you're saving £150.....)

No VAT or duty if it's coming from within the EU, which Germany is.0

Not the case unfortunatelyGoods ordered online from the EU
.......
If the online retailer you're buying the goods from does not pay UK Excise Duty before they send them to you, or the goods do not bear the relevant UK markings or warnings, the goods can be seized by customs on arrival in the UK, and you may not be able to get a refund on their value. It's therefore a good idea to check with the retailer that all these requirements have been met.0 -
That only applies to goods subject to excise duty for resale, mainly alcohol and tobacco. Your monitor does not count in this category. Duty can also mean Customs duty which does not apply from the EU to the UK in cases such as yours.
There are no extra taxes when ordering from Amazon Germany or France.0 -
I'd not go to all that bother (repair, warranty, replacement, delivery damage etc etc) to save £150 on a monitor. If it were£300 maybe and the company had a UK repair office perhaps.
There should be no duty or any other charges as you will be paying tax in the country of purchase (Germany or Luxembourg to be precise I think as Amazon use a bit of smoke and mirrors to reduce their tax).
I'm sure Amazon won't let you down if there's a problem so you'll just have to weigh up your options or look at more monitors (the UK has plenty to choose from).0 -

Thanks for response.
This monitor is not your average monitor. Its a 27" Dell which has very few alternatives as good as this. It costs about £550 - £600 and its only around £450 on Amazon.de.
When time comes to buy, as you say, i'll weigh up my options.:wall::cool:0 -
Is it the Dell U2711? if so can you post how it went as I'm after this monitor myself.0

Thats the one. Just read this page [amazon.de/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_rel_topic?ie=UTF8&nodeId=200198570] and it seems they dont know about what taxes/fees could be charged but several types could be.
Seems we'll need to speak to someone here about it.
Also the price of the monitor was £569 on the 24th this month. A market place seller is selling for £569 and its the last one remaining. Otherwise its £621.
