how? WE DISPUTED IT DAY 10

But that was march 2010 and it's now Jan 2012 and you have a final ombudsman latter which you say you have limited time to accept.
YOu need to get to the bottom of how they think you used all that data.
Request the logs.
Don't shout at me. I'm not trying to charge you £5k for something you say you haven't used. Shout at them.0 -
I can't believe people are suggesting that that data usage is "Normal" for an HTC device! It is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to use that amount of data!
5Gb is: Watching 7 full films streamed in HD. I have no idea how you would do this.
Watching about 50 hours of Youtube vids. Again, no idea.
It would fill your phone 10 times over to download that many apps.
It would NEVER, EVER, EVER be possible to download 5Gb of friends status updates, test emails, or any other thing in once month using the provided HTC friendstream/ weather apps.
The only way you could do it would be to teather it as a modem to a laptop and then go mad torrenting or downloading videos or something.
I would want to see their data logs - they hold records of exactly what has been downloaded, what sites the phone has acessed, what nodes it connected to when it was downloading this data. So ask them what it is they are saying you've watched, downloaded and used. They can link what data has been sent/recieved by your device. Where a £5k bill is concerned I'd want to see all of that data because to me, it screams "Computer error" to try and charge you for that much data.
I have posted in the past , my colleague had 11gb of use on his htc, for a start the weather app can be on constant updates, also the HTC's can be used as a wireless hotspot, so it is far from impossible, it maybe rare but certainley not impossible.0 -
On my VF bill I get info like:
Mon 8 Aug WAP 5.927MB
Tue 9 Aug WAP 13.716MB

Sorry no shout intended. I think caps left on after new sentence started. I do appreciate all responses, except those suggesting I am some sort of BT phantom complainer.
I don't think it is too late, ombudsman's letter dated 22 Dec, reply required by 12 Jan, but figures are incomprehensible and do not add up to overusage. The alleged overusage is merely referred to as "unitemised".
Must now go to soggy log cabin.0 -
I agree with Spiro.
Getting a statement saying you used xMb in a month without some sort of daily breakdown or better is not acceptable for such a huge bill.
Push them for a complete breakdown as suggested and see if there is any pattern or anything that could jog your mind.0 -

Top Work! See if you can help the OP out... I'm intrigued now to find out if BTBill DID manage to chew through that much data in 1 month!0

(The iPhone (unjailbroken) refuses to download such large apps unless it's connected to wifi though, I think the limit is 200MB, but still that's only 25 apps, it wouldn't take that long to download them).
No idea about any other smartphone though.0 -
