Might be worth asking on freecycle for a bookcase - we got out last one from there, someone was moving house and wanted shot of it and it's been in service here ever since. If you can store stuff effectively, clutter will just disappear and actually be usable becasue it's accessible

Thanks but the reason I don't have shelves or a bookcase is because OH is really OCD and doesn't like stuff! I have boxes and boxes of things in the garage to keep them out of the way, and generally they get forgotten about. A friend once asked me how do I keep my house so minimalist (to be fair, it looks immaculate 95% of the time) and I could only answer truthfully, "because I'm not allowed stuff in the house, its all in the garage"...I've decided to put most of the books in the charity bag. After all, if I've not re-read them in the last 5 years then I'm not likely to. There's always the library. I am being ruthless.
  • oh and today I returned unsuitable christmas presents to the shops which means the last 2 carrier bags in the hall have finally gone! Hurrah. Now to actually drive to the charity shop and unload the car - that might have to be tomorrows task.

    aaaarrrrgggghhh

I took a trip to the dump last week due to all the clutter in the hall and now I need to make another one! All packaging etc from xmas, I do wish manufacturers would use less packaging.

Decluttered the kitchen cupboards so there is plenty of space in them now which is lovely :D. A few items are waiting to be collected by freecyclers too!

I have allot of white T shirts, which to be honest could be hoicked out and put to better use in the garage for cleaning cloths. In reality I would only need to keep back five of them for me to wear for doing the garden, horses and cleaning the car!! I really do not need about 20 odd T shirts cluttering up my drawers!

I have also pidgeon holed a time for me to get up in the loft and have a set to up there as well on the clothing, books and ornaments front. I laid in bed last night and totted up the money I had spent and the sheer waste of it all. It's resolved me to make careful purchases in future and not act on a whim.

There is an article on the Daily Mail about clothing, which is a bit informative even though the correspondent has spent stupid amounts of money on daft items such as gold boots. It might be worth you having a look at it anyway.

Just sorted out stuff for the Charity Shop and am about to post a parcel so that brings my total to .... drum roll please .....

    January Challenge: 68/100

Off to declutter some calories whilst walking the dog after dumping the stuff at the CS/Post Office.

Very therapeutic this is!! The worrying thing is I'm doing it without even trying; it's just stuff I'm seeing and I haven't even opened any of the numerous drawers I need to sort through :o

Have a good decluttering day everyone!

    Ditch 100 in January Challenge

I'd really love to join this challenge, I did pop in and out last year but am really wanting to knuckle down and sort things as am hoping it will help with my depression too - Christmas and New Year have seen some really "dark " days for me so here goes, todays little list

1 bag of "junk" to school for model making etc
    2 small toy dinosaur
3 batteries x 4 to school for recycling
4 bag of tinsel (figured we've not used it at Christmas so probably wont use it again)
5 empty bottle & jar to recycling

Off to find more, have a great day everyone, back soon with an update.

    PS I'm from Yorkshire too

With regard to books, I cleared a load of "read it, probably won't ever read it again but loved it and don't want to part with it" type books by wrapping them up and randomly giving them to my friends as gifts. I explained that they weren't new but were all books I'd enjoyed, and as they were wrapped I didn't know who got what. I liked the idea of gifting my friends a great read and TBH I haven't missed owning them one bit. It's a nice thought that they're "out there" somewhere, being read, rather than gathering dust on my shelf.

We are in the process of trying to sell our house but it looks small and cluttered so I'm having a clear out. It will also mean less stuff to pack and move. I've just sorted the built in cupboard in DS room, he's been throwing all his clean clothes in there and everyhting fell out when I opened the door:eek:. I've taken out all the clothes that are too small for him, now I just need to find a box so they can go in the attic for DS2.
