23 hoody and trainers returned to DS (he left them behind when he stayed over). He claimed he'd left £200 too :rotfl:
24 another bag of clothes ready for CS tomorrow
25 bag of random stuff to give to Mum on sunday - book, marmalade, jam jar etc.

I'm running out of things to declutter!

Have a lovely weekend everyone whatever you're doing

    Hi everyone

I posted on the thread at beginning of January but haven't posted since.

I desparately need to declutter. We had some building work done December 2010 and we had the door taken off our study to make it more open plan and to give a bigger turning circle for DD's wheelchair & on the condition that the room was kept tidy. 14 months later and it is still in need of decluttering. Unfortunately it is next to the bathroom and lounge so anyone that comes into the house can see. On top of that I would like to be able to see the floor of our bedroom, shut the wardrobe door and store clothes/shoes in the bottom of the wardrobe rather than other clutter.

Every time someone comes to visit i clear all the paperwork off the table into a carrier bag. Every time I do this I promise myself that I will not let this happen again!!! & guess what it happens again.

I also promised myself that I every night I would tidy up everything that I'd got out that day & put away things after I'd finished using them - ha ha failed on that also.

What about all the birthday cards DD (13) & DS (15) have ever received do I really need to keep them & if I di for what reason.

Then there are all the school work /paintings they have ever done. Will they ever be looked at again?

I need advice please what do other people do?

    xx

  • I shred all paperwork over a year old-18months old except the p60s and that. All cards except very very special ones are out. Back to basics is the only way forward for me. Only keeping the bare minimum of things I need. We've got so much extra stuff in this house! It will get there one day, but I'm living with someone who wants to get the house sorted but doesn't actually want to have to do anything about it and there's only so much I can do.
  • A small amount to declare today:

    2 DVDs - charity shop
1 teddy bear - charity shop
2 tealight holders - charity shop
    1 book - give away
    lampshade - bin
    makeup bag - bin
    bag of magazines - recycling
    metal pole - recycling

    196/100 ditched in February

The spare room looks so much better now although I have some stuff in boxes waiting to go in the loft. I have a walk-in cupboard in our bedroom that I want to sort out before Monday. I was dreading it but now I'm making progress in other areas it doesn't seem quite so daunting. I've caught the de-cluttering bug! :D
  • Hi everyone,

Well, as predicted, this week has been a busy one what with meeting our new children! It has been a great week though so if anyone is thinking of adopting - I can recommend!

Among the chaos, I have actually managed to do a few decluttering tasks:

-Listed 9 more books on greenmetropolis
-Put 3 murder mystery games (already played), 1 mini casino game and a few bits a pieces into the charity box to take there tomorrow
-Two black sacks of rubbish from our office clearout
-Two large boxes of IT gear going to the charity plus a large PC server

I also have bids on two of my items on ebay and some watchers on others - they all finish Saturday so it will be good to get rid of these. I am already starting an ebay box for the next free listing weekend!

    Have a great weekend all!:)
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Hi Jarus :) here's a few ideas to start you off:

    1. Can you involve other people in your house?
    2. Can you offer incentives to help out, e.g. something the kids want in return for their help? (oops I think that's called bribery!)
    3. Some people like to concentrate on one area or room at a time so they can see progress which is an incentive to keep going.
    4. Some people (like me) go at it in one massive clear-out, have a huge pile in the garden to go to the tip, other piles for charity shop (CS) etc.
    5. You can sell things on ebay (though I haven't tried that, a lot of people on here seem to be really successful with it)
    6. You can give things away on Freegle (again others on here know much more than me)
    7. When you sell things it feels great :rotfl:
    8. Keep coming back here for inspiration :)

    hope that helps.

Main thing is - make a start, don't get overwhelmed, just keep at it and you'll get there. Good luck

A couple of pages back there was a discussion similar to this - seems to be a problem for lots of people. I have made a scrap book of our wedding and baby things. I have kept things of the DDs and will make a scrap book each for them. This school pics I have made montages of the best/funniest and put in big frames and been ruthless with the rest!

  • I'm still not feeling anything resembling human so have taken today off. I should really sort out my freebies stash, I have 22 pint glasses and about 100+ beauty samples among other stuff I've collected. I've just requested a load more freebies too, really can't resist a freebie :money: Got some buyers on ebay at the moment who are taking days to pay :(
