Wider wheels for clio??

Love them or hate them, the french and italians, (and sometimes the british), had a passion for designing cars.
You would never accuse the germans of having the same feel for designing them, no matter what you think of the build.
(Although the first golf was designed by an Italian, the same guy who designed the Alfasud, and the Lotus Esprit, which was why it was such a success)0 -
There are any number of wheel and tyre options available to you for the Clio.
In terms of grip you need to be aware that the tyre compound itself will play a large part in the grip not just the size. BUT softer tyres offering more grip will wear quicker and have different performance over the winter/summer seasons.......
With regards alloy wheels, look for a quality supplier who gives good advice - not just the cheapest. If you get the correct offset you shouldn't need spacers but most aftermarket wheels will come with free spigot rings to adapt the hub size which is a common practice and quite safe. Also be aware that when you buy aftermarket wheels you will likely need new bolts/nuts as most aftermarket alloys have a 60deg taper on the holes - we provide these free of charge....... if you would like some more free advice google alloywheelworld
I hope this helps you.......0 -

You seem to be seizing on any thread that mentions alloys just to cynically spam us with your company.

All before the Golf.
The Alfasud originally came with a 1.2 engine and can in no way be described as a hot hatch. The Fiat Strada (also known as the Ritmo) was released in 1978, which is after the Golf. The Lotus Sunbeam was released in 1979.
The Renault Turbo 2 was a mid engined version of the Renault 5 and bore no relation to the original car, being a two seater and was not introduced until 1980. It was also rear wheel drive.
The Chevette HS was also introduced after the Golf in 1978. The HSR varient was introduced in 1980."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I had a 2004 Clio (albeit a 1.5 diesel). It came with 15" alloys, with 185/55s on it. Stuck to the road like glue. Loved it, drove it for miles over the 5 years I had it, and only had a few problems with it - the main ones being a dodgy EGR valve (common on most diesels, not just Renault), collapsed alternator bearing, and a broken cable in the wiring loom. Sadly I wrote it off in an accident about 4 months ago.
In the meantime I was driving my partners 2003 Polo, with 14" boots on. Handling is awful, practically have to crawl around roundabouts, and in the wet its even worse. Hated every minute.
FWIW I would recommend getting the 15" alloys and boots for the Clio, you will not regret it.0 -
I'm still waiting for someone to tell the OP to buy a 'better' car, come on guys. Page 2 and no-one has yet, you're letting the side down!

FWIW, the Clio serves a purpose as a small car to potter around town in. A friend has had one for years but it has larger than standard (15 or 16" I think) rims on, and it takes corners brilliant. It's only a 1.2 so it takes him time to get the momentum back, though!

Try a:
Citroen AX
Peugeot 205GTI
Clio 172
Clio Williams
Clio 182 Cup
Clio V6 if you're a bit nutty.
Megane 225
The Frnech pretty much defined the hot hatch era, and continue to produce some of the most capable hot hatches around. A clio 182 is a fantastic car to drive. and I do mean Drive!
Agree with most but the AX? Loved mine, went like a rocket but skittish around corners and the brakes... well, the less said about those, the better. Hardly hot hatch. 0 -

the ax GT handled better than a honda crx pocket rocket in courners IMHO.
brakes were stubborn as mule but with some little mods like drilled discs and better pads, made it easier to stop.0 -
Try a:
Citroen AX max alloy size fitted 13'
Peugeot 205GTI 14's
Clio 172
Clio Williams will need bore reducer and hub spacer of 10mm.
Clio 182 Cup wont fit 5 stud hub
Clio V6 if you're a bit nutty. wont fit 5 stud hub
Megane 225 wont fit five stud hub
