Wider wheels for clio??
I have a bog standard 1.2 clio 2001. wheel size 175/65. Im used to driving bigger cars that stick to the road but do not feel comfortable throwing this car round corners. Based on the model and wheel size can i put wider wheels on this car??

13" wheels?
Depends on the wheelarch, and clearance. Renaults have a unique bore, so only other renault rims will go on,0 -

I don't see why. In rally cars they go down to 145 and 155 in snow and have no qualms about charging through a forest at 100MPH with trees only feet away.
Wide tyres are worse in the wet and on snow than narrow ones. Once upon a time 155 tyres were the most common. People were quite happy to throw those round corners.0 -
maybe its because the car is very light, im used to getting round corners with ease and safety rather than the wobble at the back. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0

A little clio should hug the road anyway. It's more about wheelbase than tyre width, so wide tyres may not solve the problem anyway? I really can't see that a Clio should have a wobble at the back unless there's something else wrong.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. If your clio has a "wobble at the back" then theres either something wrong with it or your taking the corners too fast.
How much tread on the tyres? Have you checked tyre pressures?0 -

When I say wobble i dont really mean wobble, sounds daft. This is the first small car ive had, I live in a rural part of the country so used to the roads, we have a section of roads that are all corners and ive had a few larger cars that i can go round these corners and feel a good amount of grip. Now this car well a 1.2L so im thinking a basic clio no mod cons! I know its lighter and smaller and im thinking its me just being paranoid of the car. I just feel like that maybe theres not the grip as in my Megane, or Scenic or even 307.
im just looking for reasurance I think. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -

I'm guessing you're on175/65r14 at the moment? This chart will tell if you can change to,say, 185/60r14 on the same rims - http://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk/equivalency-tables-advice.html
Not sure you'd notice that much difference though? Otherwise you're into changing the rims and going for eg 185/55r15 or 195/50r15 tyres on 15" wheels. You'd probably notice the difference this way, but would make the ride firmer, and as has already been said, wider tyres are worse in snow.
Perhaps you'll have to accept the limitations of a 1.2 Clio and slow down, enjoy the scenery and the fuel savings!0 -
Why would you want to be "throwing" the car into corners anyway? The comment suggests that you are driving without much of a safety margin should things go a bit Pete Tong."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
