Wider wheels for clio??

Fair enough. I like them, for what they are. And yes, the french did ,and continue to, make cars that define what a hot hatch is....
not that a 1.2 clio is in any way a hot hatch.0 -
You're weird Nev

The Golf GTi was the original hot hatch, and has always been the benchmark. The 205 came close when it was out, but the rest are just sheep in wolves clothing IMHO.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. I've got a Clio 172 and it sticks to the road. It sounds like you should have got one if going round the twisties is what you want. Don't fall into the trap of spending more on mods on a 1.2 than it would cost to actually buy a proper Clio fit for the job with bigger brakes, better suspension, bigger tyres, much faster engine etc all as standard.
Have to say though, even the 172 doesn't 'feel' exactly planted on the road... but it is. I think because it's so light.0 -
That's more my point. The car just doesnt 'feel' right when you drive it, even if it is. The Mk 6 Golf is seriously the best car I've driven for security, drive and general solidity. Even the 1.4 version goes like a rocket and just does not budge on corners.Have to say though, even the 172 doesn't 'feel' exactly planted on the road... but it is. Renault 5 Alpine beat it to the market, and a stream of Gordini's turbos etc was closely followed by other marques.0 -
Im not talking about driving carelessly its just a completely different drive.
You have obviously never driven a R4 or a 2CV. drive one of those and the cliowill look rock solid!! :rotfl::rotfl:
Imagine if you were used to super car with all stability etc .....
Adjust your driving style to the car. You will get used to it eventually.0 -
Chevette HSR, Talbot Sunbeam/Lotus Sunbeam, Renault Turbo 2, Alfasud, Fiat Strada.
All before the Golf.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Personally I find golfs totally inert, and a 1.4 really isn't going to set the world alight.....0 -
I think the problem is, that you have a French car obsession! None of them drive well. You're weird Nev

Give your head a wobble man!
if you think a mk6 1.4 golf will out handle a 205 gti, 306 gti6, clio williams, clio 182 cup or an AX GT i suggest you put wake up and smell the coffee!
Indeed the 106 gti was second on the list of best handling cars and that was way above a lot of supercar exotica.
Oh and the golf gti may have been one of the first hot hatches but it is pretty universally accepted that the 205 GTi was the best of the hot hatches.0 -

106 GTi second best handling car in the world (at the time) behind a hundred grands worth of ferrari and above an elise, an m3, skyline and a golf VR6!0
