Hello everyone
Well docs was a disaster! my appointment was 5pm and didn't get in till 6.10pm so I was in a bad mood and stressing about the dogs being left so long. Turns out that doctors cant help you with quitting smoking?!! makes total sense...... so I would have to find a stop smoking service and go every week and most of them are weekday mornings! Just makes you want to give up!!
So I was in foul mood when got home and ate loads of ice cream (I don't even like icecream but was closest thing to chocolate) and smoked lots of cigarettes bent down to clean up after dogs and twisted round and felt my knee pop and now its really painful so all in all a !!!!!! day
So....
Cigarettes - See above
Biking - Done but cant today due to knee so that's also bus fair not planned for

Oh JVR what a rotten ending to your day.
I'm surprised that your Dr didn't have more to offer, I know that they're all stretched these days but still this is for your future health and someone being proactive should be helped in my view.
I don't know anything about them as I've never smoked but some pharmacies run programmes for quitting smoking.

They might be a more flexible way to help you - obviously they will also want to sell you their quitting products but they do all seem to offer some groups or 1-1 support as well.
Might also be worth looking at Quit Clubs in your area - google is all I can suggest - there do seem to be quite a lot of them and presumably arranged at more sensible times.
Hope that helps a bit.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

 joeyjimbles, well done you for still making progress with the clearing out despite having OH at home all of the time.
 jvr, what a disastrous day, hope your knee is better soon. I hope this won't put you off giving up smoking. I like joeyjimbles idea to cut back on one every 5 days.0 -

Hi Happy! I hope all is calm and smooth-going in the Land of Happy, but I strongly suspect that life is very, very hectic for you. *Coping vibes* heading your way.
You're all doing brilliantly. *admiration*
Sorry about my absence everyone. I've been a really rubbish contributor this month, haven't I? I tried the gluten-free thing for the first couple of weeks in August and it didn't make any difference to my energy levels which I found seriously disheartening. Then the lovely Shaggy Do over on the Giving Up/Cutting Down on Alcohol thread suggested a Low GI approach and I was so desperate I decided to tweak my diet in that direction - and I haven't looked back. The result was instantaneous. Once again, I have to say that I can't be doing with dietery fads so I'm not sticking to the idea religously and pack in any amount of crap in the evenings when it doesn't matter if I have an energy slump. But during the day I have enough energy now to get on with things that I want to do, so I am. In other words, I don't have to spend all day sitting at my desk pretending what I'm doing on the computer is 'work.'
My weight is fluctuating a bit which is weird, but whatever I don't lose this month will have to come off in September because I need to feel comfortable in a dress I bought to go to a wedding in late Septembers when I was at my slimmest. Fingers crossed for weigh-in next Monday morning, then.Better is good enough.0 -
Hello everyone
Lovely to see you Honey - MIL follows a low GI diet most of the time and looks to Jane Clarke and Ian Marber (the Food Doctor!) for inspiration. I'm not sure how readily available JC is online, apart from the Daily Mail columns, but Ian Marber's recipes are quite easy to find. I bought a couple of JC books for MIL from Abe Books and she uses them a lot.
The dreaded back to school shopping this afternoon - most of it is click and collect but have to brave the stupidly-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-shop that is only open certain hours on certain days and is the only place to buy the school's jumper. I've been putting it off but last year they ran out of jumpers, ties and pe kit 3 weeks before term started and didn't get new stuff until well after term began so I hope I've not left it too late.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

:hello: Morning all!
Lovely to hear from you Honey Bear, hope the low GI thing continues to work for you. I could do with a boost of energy levels but as we already eat gluten free (for my coeliac disease) and low carb/low sugar (for OH's diabetes), I suspect my lack of energy comes from lack of sleep.
Hope you managed to get the school uniforms sorted joeyjimbles.
