1. Cut down to 10 cigarettes a day - Erm - no idea how many ooops must do better
2. Walk the dogs every day after work - OH's day off so he did a long walk with them
3. Keep cycling to work every day - Done
4. Stick to 1700 calories on non cycling days and 2000 on cycling days - 2252 as had a braai and some drinks - with calculating exercise this still leaves my normal deficit so not too unhappy for a treat day
5. Two weight training days a week - OH day off so never go to gym as only evenings I see him same again but MUST go Friday!
Well done Dolphin you are off to an amazing start - I know what you mean I feel very motivated at the moment but my issue is always sticking to something
We need new laminate throughout the whole of downstairs as we had a leak that damaged it in the kitchen and because of taking down an inner wall there is massive gap in living room/dining room. Spoke to OH who is terrible with money and he seems to be prioritizing getting that done at the end of the month - going to do it ourselves to save some moneyDebt: £14,000 now £2169Emergency Fund: 1000/ £1000:j0 -
for those of us who are doing rather better than others.
Hi Happy! I hope all is well in Happy Land.Maybe just one target if you aren't feeling that enthused this month? Just so that you feel like you are making some progress with something which always gives a bit of a boost.
Excellent suggestion. I think I'll go for:- Lose 3lbs over the month
Ooooh, another one. As per the Flylady Thread because progress on sorting the house out has stalled after four years:- Clear one hotspot a day, five days a week.
Better is good enough.0 -
Hi, Honey - I've started again with Flylady - well lurking rather than posting - our house has just gone to pot, not dirty but untidy and its making me grumpy so I'm going to deal with it. My plan is an hour a day as I can easily waste that much just faffing around the edges, so a flylady constructive hour should have more effect. And hopefully that will also help with the bigger project of sorting the 3 rooms with the remnants too.LD 12.25 £1600.00/£0700.00 Fn £274.00 LTFn £525 LLTFn £300

Hi all
jvr - The braai sounds like it was fun, hope you had better weather than we did here, it rained pretty much all day.
Honey Bear - Well done, you now have two targets to work on!
Honey Bear/joeyjimbles - I decided to clean the oven (again) at the beginning of the week and it took me almost two days on and off so I am very behind with everything else. My plan is to get away with the minimum for the rest of the week to make it look ok and then catch up again next week. I feel flustered when my normal cleaining routine gets disrupted. I still can't work out how my oven gets so bad in just a few months and yet some people seem to get away with cleaning not very often at all.
P.S. Does anyone know how to get tin foil off the bottom of the oven? It's just a couple of little bits but they won't shift. Lots of suggestions on google but no clue which one is likely to work.0 -
Well done on all your efforts you funny, funny ladies
(not you Honey - you get a 'well done' for being funny but not for your target-effort-for-August)
The House of Happy is in chaos. The good news is that Donkey-dog makes an excellent house guest and, luckily enough, my entire family (including our own dog) are madly in love with him. Which is fortunate, because the bad news is that his owner is very ill and unlikely to ever go home. He has no-one else, so Mr H and I are visiting daily and we are his named contacts. So not a good start to August and there's a fair chance it will end even worse.
Targets chosen accordingly!- Do something fun every day
- Keep those purse strings tight (despite hospital parking of £2.80 daily )
- Spend at least seven hours in bed each night
LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

Dolphin - oh it was partly raining my husband is very determined and I hid inside with my sister and wine and then generously ate lots of food
Joey/Dolphin - I need to look at this flylady thing as my house is a state!
Honey - So glad the dog is fitting in nicely I have two nutcases of my own, very sorry to hear about his owner. I like the fun target! Its definitely been one of mine for a while - to cut a long story short had a nasty falling out with a best friend of 10 years who changed overnight practically made it my mission to reach out and spend time with other friends I don't see very often and its been fab!
1. Cut down to 10 cigarettes a day - Erm - best not talked about! must work on this and stop being so lazy might get some gum to switch up when I'm at work
2. Walk the dogs every day after work - OH managed to stab himself in the hand and go to A&E yesterday (he is a chef) on the plus side home before me and walked the dogs
3. Keep cycling to work every day - Done I can already tell a difference in fitness in just over a week but that last hill home is still a challenge! - also this wind is making it hard as it seems to blow me back to work when cycling as fast as I can to get home
4. Stick to 1700 calories on non cycling days and 2000 on cycling days - 1438 which is not good because with the amount I am cycling will just burn muscle - need to find some healthy snacks to add in as don't want to eat junk
5. Two weight training days a week - Must do today!!Debt: £14,000 now £2169Emergency Fund: 1000/ £1000:j0 -
HappyNow, you and Mr HappyNow are so lovely to be doing all that for your neighbour. What a sad situation! You absolutely need to do something fun each day to keep you going.
Update for yesterday...
1) To have 20 NCDs - First fail of August, chocolate brownie eaten so still on 3 NCDs for August.
2) To walk an average of 10,000 steps per day over each week (so 70,000 total for each week) - Just over 10,000 steps again :j.
3) To put my light out by 11pm every night including weekends - Light out at 10.55pm :j.
4) To lose 10lbs over the course of the month - First report due Monday!0 -
Well done JVR, and how sane of you to move on from a toxic friendship and find some new people to be with. That's brilliant.
The flylady thread is here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5502411 it's a weekly thread but they'll post the link to next week's at the end of this week if that makes sense.

Thanks TOXIC is the exact right word! Having cut myself off I realized how isolated our 'group' had been. Lots of emphasis on how amazing it was we were all friends still and I only realized after that it meant I neglected other great people in my life due to pressures from the 'group' those that are happy to keep in contact with me separately but some people seem to have taken offence which I have learnt is there issue not mine. All I did was say I wanted someone out of my life and leave a whatsapp group - some peoples reactions were as if I had burned down houses and moved to Australia :rotfl:
My mum has been telling me about this Kon Mari thing she is a perpetually messy person with the dreams of being super organized and I have to say the biggest thing that appealed is learning how to organize my plastic bags which drive me nuts in the cupboard - how sad is that! Will do some reading/ organizing this weekend and see how I get on!Debt: £14,000 now £2169Emergency Fund: 1000/ £1000:j0 -
