Thank you so much, Joey. I've printed off his recipe and I'll defo try it next. OH was cooking pasta for us a couple of weeks ago and grabbed the nearest bag, chucked it in the pan and didn't think twice about it. I've been cooking two lots because he doesn't like fuseli anyway I realised he'd used the GF fuseli I generally have- and he actually liked it! So a pastry we can both like and eat would be massively helpful. I'm defo going to try this, so thank you. I defrosted some very old frozen homemade last night and savaged it into the quiche pan but - oh dear. I supposed defrosting it in the microwave didn't help much, either. In the end I didn't eat the pastry, but OH said the crispy bits were nice!

And - Ta da! A sugar-free day yesterday. Rah rahs please.

Rah rah rasputin...ah different kind of rahrah but jolly nonetheless. Well done.

You are welcome HoneyB, I love to cook and am often baking so it is no problem to try something a bit different. Anything to alleviate the tedium of DS revision and audit work which seems to be my lot at the moment. I'm not convinced that defrosting a quiche in a microwave was ever going to be successful sadly.

Do you all know about making rice in the slow cooker? I learned it on the food thread. Wash 1 cup of rice - ideally easy-cook but basmati worked just fine - rinse til the water is clearl. Quick spray of 1-cal spray or a tiny film of oil into slow cooker then add the rice and 2 cups of water. Cook on high for 2-3 hrs - my easy cook was done in 2hrs and the basmati in 2hrs 15.

I would suggest checking around 1hr 50 in case your water has run dry, and then take a view. It had in the basmatic so I just chucked in another 1/4 cup and turned it down to Low. Results were excellent, fluffy and perfectly cooked. Useful for when you have lots to feed and just want to make things simple - you can double the amounts without any harm.

 Top of the morning to you, Happy. I hope the Happy family is holding it's own, Mr Happy's redundancy money has turned up and Happy Pops is healing.

    Ta, muchly.

Coming from someone who hasn't got a single targetty-type goal this month that's rich!

Er, it wasn't the quiche - it was the ball of raw pastry! I'd forgotten to take it out in the morning so it was a last minute thing, I was in a rush, the second zap was too long ....

I'll defo try the rice thing, too. It was thanks to the slow cooker thread I got one, and then found that I use it to make yoghurt more than anything else! I've yet to find the secret of making meaty stuff that goes into the slow cooker come out in a rich brown gravy, and now we're done with that time of year for a few months, so it'll wait until October November time before I try again.

All this in an attempt to defer the moment when I admit to finishing the Easter egg and scoffing a tube of fruit pastilles last night. In my defence, I'd had a long, sort of frustrating day and looking at another day like that today and I'd had sugar cravings all day. So, there you have it.

Happy May Bank Holiday weekend, Happy! I hope you have a lovely break.

Just wanted to check my facts about something. There is wiggle room in targetty things, isn't there? I didn't indulge my cravings for sugary things yesterday but I did finish up with three handmade chocolates and an chocolate-covered orange peel stick just before bedtime. If I could look forward to that sometimes I don't think I'd be quite so self-indulgent during the day. Well, it worked yesterday, anyway.

Presumably the targets are whatever you want them to be so if you want to allow yourself a treat a day then you can do. I seem to recall that one of HappyNow's previous targets allowed for one treat a day. I know that it would be impossible for me to give up treats every day so that's why I started the NCD target which I think I should start again for June.

I didn't set any targets for May - remembering last year I knew that this month and some of next would be more about staying sane than anything else. I've mostly managed it though did lose it with DS1 on Wednesday when the exam martyrdom boiled over into too much of a pity party. Oddly enough he seemed to perk up after that.

Hope you're ok HAPPY??? Assume, hope, that having Mr Happy around a bit more is just making it difficult to get on here.

Sorry Honey, I must have missed that it was just the raw pastry that you were defrosting. I have never had any success defrosting pastry in the microwave. If I need it, and I've forgotten to get it out, then I tend to find making more is just as quick but then I'm quite willing to make it in the food processor.

That sounds like a good plan Dolphin, I should think about some targets for the end of June. I have cleared all the boxes in all the rooms but one - and yes that one does look like a bomb has gone off but it will have to stay that way until the loft is sorted. My loose plan is now to paint the second spare bedroom for DS2 - thought we were getting visitors this weekend but as they have decided to cancel I might persuade OH that a trip to diy shop is in order. I have no wish to go but if the paint is just there, then the rest will follow - no?

Happy Bank Holiday Monday to you, Happy, and to Joey and Dolphin, too.

Yesterday would have been a success, but for the biscuit thing served with an after dinner coffee while we were out, but I'm still very proud of myself. We went to The James Plays and OH said he needed something sweet so I unearthed my last packet of fruit pastilles (I heart fruit pastilles. The tube, obvs, not the boxed ones. They're yuk.) for him and turned them down when offered them. Wasn't I good?

    :hello: HappyNow.

Well done Honey Bear for resisting the fruit pastilles and for generally just hanging in there this month with very little support :T.
