I took out Buildings and Contents Insurance with L & G in November 2013, to make sure I was covered in every way possible I also took out Legal Cover as you never know when something terrible may happen that means you need it, every year I have made sure I have had legal cover, and I have been taking out insurance in that way since 2000. In January this year (2014) a local builder took it upon themselves to start digging a big hole in my garden, they didn't discuss it with me or ask they just did it, I emailed the builder to say that they must contact me to discuss ways in which this must now be resolved, he didnt call me or email back instead he just had someone come into my garden unannounced and bodge the garden. I contacted a Solicitor and was told that it was going to cost me £250 for the first meeting and then I will be charged for letters etc to try and resolve the matter, I then remembered I have legal insurance so will use that. NO.....to my disgust the legal cover provided by DAS though L & G will not be usable until May 2014 and anything that happens before then I will have to pay for myself. So I have paid them upfront for something I can't have use of and is of no use to me when I need it. L & G didn't send me any information through the post and it is very unclear in the infromation online/via email. I am of course going to raise a complaint about this with DAS and the Ombudsman, has anyone else had this problem before, does anyone know of an insurance company that do not have such ludicrous conditions? Does anyone know how I can get the matter with the builder resolved cheaply?0

Just wondering if anyone can recommend an insurer for home and contents with a clinic used for medical treatments. We have a separetly built building with it's own entrance and waiting room. It is only used a few times a week (unfortunately). I just had a John Lewis policy cancelled when called to explain we run a business from home (within the the first 14 days)0

Who do you arrange the business insurances through?0

Dear Sir/Madam
I have a Policy with Halifax for Buildings and Contents Insurance.
I have made a claim for accidental damage to one of my leather sofas which is part of 3 pieces ie: 2 x 2 seater leather sofas and a 3 seater leather sofa.
Halifax have advised that whilst I am covered I am only covered for the damaged sofa because it is 3 sofas not a 3 piece suite.
They have also said that they are going to give me vouchers and not cash to replace the damaged sofa - this will be impossible as any sofa I get will not match to other 2 sofas.
Please can you advise me what my rights are.0 -

Not sure what it is that you are asking? Are you saying that you want Halifax to replace all 3 sofas even though they are not part of a set and only one is damaged? All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
Hi Im saying they are part of a set - the couches are a suite - they are identical and were bought as a set of 3. Halifax are saying they can only replace but it wont be with a like for like ie: a totally different couch than the other 2.
Does that explain it better?0 -

Hi there,
You have a matching 'set' of sofas even if they are not a 'suite'. Halifax are correct in so far as the policy will only cover the damaged item. However, the FOS recommend that in this situation, the Insurers should also pay up to 50% of the replacement cost of the undamaged items.
I think that is the best you can hope for Sandra...ask Halifax about this.
Insurers are under a duty of care to keep premiums affordable. As such, there are terms and conditions (restrictions) in all policies. If Insurers paid all claims made in full we probably wouldn't have an insurance industry any more and the economy would collapse. I appreciate that this won't be of any comfort to you but the approach towards matching items/sets/suites is common throughout many UK home insurance policies.
I hope this helps you to squeeze a bit more from your claim Sandra.0
