Does anyone have any experience of the above?
We have just let our insurer know that we are having an extension built and our premium is going up 600%! The underwriters are insisting that our cover also covers the liability of the building work. This is comprehensively covered by our builders insurance and so seems a trifle unfair as I can't imagine what the excess liability for our insurers is.
Any suggestions gratefully received as the builders are sat outside waiting to start!0 -
Your builders have Contractors All Risk Cover which covers any new construction they make but not the existing structure.
Your Building Insurers cover any damage to the existing structure.
Construction work can often increase the chances of a claim eg fire or escape of water and once the extension is completed it can increase the chances if subsidence.0 -
But would that justify a 600% increase in premium?0

Hi, was wondering if someone can help me...I have a leak from my imersion tank which has also damaged my ceiling....I cant find my buildings insurance paperwork or who I am insured with, I have just sat and gone through my bank statements to see if I can find out who I paid and cant find it Arghhh!
My questions are:
1)Is there any way I can find out who Im insured with? - I know im an idiot for not filing it away and will never do this again.
2)If i were to find my insurace details would it cover the replacment imersion and the ceiling or just the ceiling?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.0 -

It's entirely up to the Insurer whether they charge extra and how much extra.
If you're not happy find another Insurer.
Some Insurers are not happy taking on a customer with building work about to start or in progress so make sure you read all of the questions and assumptions0 -

Try ringing your mortgage provider as they normally keep a note of who your insured with.
Building Insurance would normally cover escape of water, so the subsequent damage would normally be covered but not repairing the leak0 -
Thanks for your response I thought that would be the case regarding the repair.....the other suggestion would not work as there is no mortgage on the property it was inherited by my mother from my grandfather...is there anywhere else I could perhaps try?0

You will need to check your bank or credit card statements.
Or do a search of your email try "Insurance" or company names such as "Aviva" or "Direct Line"0 -
Thanks again, I should have put more info in my original post, I have tried searching all email accounts and bank statements, bit of a long a shot posting on the forum...didnt know if perhaps there was a central database similar to the one for car insurance or am I clutching at straws0
