Thankfully today was recycle day and they did come and collect.

Next Friday is extra bag day, should have a yellow dot on your card to say that the council will collect extra black bags placed beside your bin.

Then it should (ha ha) go back to normal.

I had an issue with our council last year, they missed my bin one week, I thought ok, must have been an oversight. Called council & they said they would ask the team why. Was told it was "too heavy". I argued it wasnt. Managed to get to the tip with the aid of a friend's car to take some rubbish out. Following week, I watched the wagon as it arrived, and the bloke came over to the bin, put his hand on the handle and walked away. I shot out and went after him and demanded to know why he hadn't taken my wheelie bin, his response? Too heavy. ITS ON WHEELS!!! ITS NOT LIKE HE HAS TO CARRY THE FLAMING THING ON HIS BACK!! I demonstrated that it indeed was not heavy and could be moved by one hand. He said it may damage the wagon. I wheeled the bin to the wagon and he put it on the back and lo & behold the wagon did not fall apart or burst into flames. Following week, I wasn't there, and guess what? Wasn't emptied. I called the council again and was told the same old story, too heavy. I told them either someone comes to remove my rubbish or I would deliver the contents of my wheelie bin to the town hall steps. Within 2 hours the wagon was back and emptied my bin. Funnily enough not had an issue since!

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.
  • When we lived in Swindon, we had a fortnightly rubbish collection, it was OK unless it was a very hot summer, it really stank the neighbourhood.

Here we get a weekly collection, but no wheelie bin, its black bags. I dont buy bllack bags just to throw into landfill, i use suppermarket bags - since they end up in landfill anyway, and guess what? the council wont take them, they are the wrong type of bag!! it must be black bags.

It got worse, our weekly bag was not collected, it had been torn open, so I phoned the council, they came out and took it. Ditto the following week, again it had been opened and left behind. I phoned and the council said the dustmen said there is garden rubbish in he bag. The garden rubbish they were referring to was left-over spring greeens.

I remember when bin men picked up bins/heavy bags and chucked them in the back.

Turning into a right bunch of pansies.
  • I remember back in the 70's paying binmen a fiver to take away a mountain of rubbish inc. wood, a dismantled greenhouse and old electrical items, and all the binmen promptly formed a human chain from trash pile to truck.

When I had my pub, the binmen used to stop for a pint & bacon butties.
