I agree the fortnightly bin collection is ridiculous. Same happened with the public sector strike, no bin collection on the assigned collection day, had to wait another fortnight for collection a month a total!

We have fortnightly collections, and if the day your bin is emptied falls on a public holiday, then it's tough and it won't get emptied for a further 2 weeks. Last Christmas our entire street did not get their bins emptied for nearly a month.

Those whose bin day is monday, when the bulk of the bank holidays are, do get a pretty raw deal on this.
  • We have fortnightly collections and go to the tip regularly as cleaning out the guinea pigs etc generates too much rubbish. OP I feel for you. But at last you've only got a week to wait! On the other hand, I'm sure the tip won't take an hour to queue at the moment. Maybe it'll be busier when people are chucking out Christmas trees etc. I know I always prefer to keep rubbsih cleared, but maybe yours can all fit in the bins til next week anyway??

That's bad! OUrs falls a day after in that situation.
  • I have to say that there was one particular bank holiday and no one put their bins out, I don't know what happened but we were all caught on the hop, luckily the bin men were dragging them up the path for people and it gave us all enough time to get outside and up the paths - with our bleary eyes and bed head hair!

Our bins are weekly and our recycling is fortnightly and this seems to work ok - not sure if with the cuts it will go to fortnightly - I think I could cope with that - but no way for a whole month - nightmare

Managed to get through to the council and they won't be coming back even though there were hardly any bins out to empty.
Our normal day is Thursday but the website said it will be Friday, we used to get stickers on the bins if they were going to be on a different day but they stopped that.
Next week is definitely Friday according to the council woman but I'll have it ready on Thursday just in case.
We are lucky to still have weekly collections though, we recycle as much as we can but couldn't cope with fortnightly collections.

whens your normal day ? ours is a day late this wk + next so will be collected on sat, my council suspends the green bin collection so ive got 4 black bins emptied in a row .

Ours is the opposite - we're allowed to put out double for the green bin! ;)

An hour's queue at the tip? Really?

Our tip won't take household waste, just recycling.

    Then it's not a tip, it's a recycling centre!

Count yourself lucky you have a weekly collection. Mine is fortnightly, and I forgot to put mine out so they weren't emptied for a whole month!

its normally fortnightly but over Christmas they empty it weekly for a month

  • Our bins were missed yesterday too. The binmen had emptied the bins on the main road but they hadn't bothered to come round the back to empty all the bins where we live! Grr.

We are stuck with full bins for another two weeks now and with two cats using litterboxes... lovely! I did phone to rearrange collection but they may not even bother to find out that it is the back of the property that needs their bins emptying.

Woke up this morning and found the strong wind had blown over the bin, and the empty bottles and cans were strewn all over the street. So my first job this morning has been to go out and gather all the rubbish...as I have been doing all week in the sales.

Can't you recycle your cans and bottles, etc.?

Perhaps it was the bin for recycling bottles and cans that blew over?
