I joined that thread too, but am still confused. Every time I consider a coupon I look at the supermarket own brand and it nearly always seems to be cheaper so I only buy those and very rarely buy brand products. Will it be cheaper than this , using coupons for branded products? The ones I ve seen have been ,say, for 20p off a Goodfellas pizza or 40p off Robinsons Barley water when the supermarket blackcurrant squash tastes the same. Keep feeling I must be missing something.....

I too have swapped to alot of value brands this year, so was intrigued how it would all work. After reading the first few pages of the thread several times I realised it was only a bargain IF it was less than the value ones

I have a 2 coupons for fairy washing up liquid at £1.00 each and I know the supermarkets often have 2 for £2.00 on them, so if I use my vouchers they will be free. It also took a bit for the penny to drop that I could hold onto my vouchers till the offer appeared :D

Best gains New Customer is when the item is reduced and combined with a coupon ...cheap.
As with Glenfiddich, down to £20 minus £2 as on coupon thread and as I did Chitsmas Eve the Co-op £2 off £10 con ditional spend. So £16 for Malt whisky normally selling at £30'ish.
And recently Honey Shreddies £1.OO offer in store and a £1 printed off coupon.
And Campbells Condensed soup FREE with coupon.
    And before that SPAM... FREE
And like you say normal discounted brands are often more than , say, Tesco Value. A learning process

Thanks Ken, so are you saying there are some coupons for stuff that is actually free? Now that IS worth doing lol! Please, what is a 'conditional spend for Xmas Eve' My supoermarket is Co op and I didnt see that! drat!

Oh wow, that IS good to know. The penny drops also! Didn't know the coupons had a long life! Actually, thinking about it....the co op ones are a year i believe! Will keep my fairy dishwash ones til I see an offer and see what happens!

Just reading the last few post and the phrase "penny drops" is so apt, it does take a little while to understand and get maximum benefit - it did for myself anyway!!
Not only are some items free as in examples above, but at times they actually pay you to take the stuff away. :money:
An example was, Innocent Veg Pots - each "free" coupon was worth and scanned at £3.79 - Sainsbury's had them BOGOF, so taking two pots and handing in two coupons, you actually got £3.79 taken off the rest of your shopping (make sure your shopping was for more than £3.79 obviously and less conspicious with a higher value shop). Even if you don't like the Veg Pots or don't even want them, it still made sense to "buy" them to get the £3.79 off your shopping - you could always donate the Veg Pots.
Another great one was the Sacla sauces, £1 off and Morries had the Dallaglio (sacla) sauces for 99p - yes, 1p to take them away. This was great because it was a PDF coupon and you could print as many as you wanted. Max I personally got in one go were nine jars, but have enough Dallaglios to last 2012.............and all free.
Loads more examples, but some have gone now and just waiting for the next batch to come along.

So as Ken68 says, combining coupons with offers (finding the best combination) really reaps rewards. I also agree that branded stuff is more expensive and not always better - but getting it free/near free certainly help.

Hope that "penny drops" quickly and you all reap the rewards for the effort.

Happy couponing in 2012 - be lucky.

The £2 coupon was for one day only, must have got it here probably the coupon thread. Printed off several, made me go into the Co-op. anyway.Got talking to the Assistant Manager, "Where do you get your prices from" and pointed out several items way cheaper elswhere. He said shoppers come here mainly for the reduced clearance items.
Pity really because it is an ethical company and appears to have a social conscience.
p.s. Make the Food and grabbit and coupons boards favourites , and also HUKD.Also read the Newpaper thread in the coupons boards.

I didn't see it but I rarely use coupons as I can't get anyone to accept them. If on the occasion that I do take a coupon in to someone the entire place comes to a standstill :o whilst they all try to decide whether or not to take the coupon.
