Hi, this is the Daily Thread forThursday29th December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Well I still have my phone line & internet access, long may it continue.
Hubby's been dropped at the station, he'll probably be home early & will phone when he needs a lift.
I spent most of yesterday in the kitchen using up all the leftover veg, I had a veg box delivered that I hadn't ordered, I gave most of it to DD but kept some & it was beginning to look a bit limp, so I made a huge cauliflower cheese, I had some for my lunch & the rest I'll take to DD's today along with a batch of mashed carrots & swede that she can portion up for the baby. I roasted a wrinkled pepper, 4 squishy tomatoes, 3 red onions that were going soft, half a parsnip & 3 new potatoes, then I put them in a large pan, added some water & curry powder & I now have 4 pints of soup. I cooked mince pies & brownies for hubby's cleaning team whilst the oven was on.
The beef was all sliced & packed away in the freezer, most of the ham & turkey the same, though I did make turkey curry & turkey ham and mushroom pie the day after Boxing day.
Plans for today include mainly housework, with a bit of crochet & kindle use inbetween.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Hester - you must be typing - thanks for this. Hope that you have a great day - and to the rest of the OSers! Have made stock from turkey crown carcass which will make a great soup and then tonight will have bolognese for tea - sure we have frozen mince somewhere! Otherwise cleaning up today - got a lot to do! Hugs xx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

  • MORNING!

DS had a sleepover last night, and they are behaving really well :) I think a lot has to do with how strict I am... his friend can be a right pain, but he seems to respect that my word is law! I must be really scary!

Today DH is out early again doing the food shopping for me while avoiding the crowds (bless him he's such a sweetheart)!

OS today... Um... having LO from the freezer for dinner! LOL nothing much else needs doing, we are on top of the washing and all the LO from Christmas are gone!

DH washed and cleaned my car yesterday (I have a friend viewing it, as it's going to be sold!) he was out there for AGES! I am feeling very sentimental... but he really is a darling :) He also took me for a walk in the park yesterday afternoon too :)

Today I have to fight my way into town to go to H&B for some herbal heartburn pills... I am desperatly low! I am kicking myself because I gave a pot of them to my sister a few months ago, and now I have to find £5!!! Pity you can't get them on perscription, but I would rather take these then those nasty 'gavason' blah!!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day x

    Morning :santa2:

I was forced to sort out and scrub one of the cupboards yesterday, mr tru hadn't put the lid back on the oil properly AND had knocked it over. Everything was covered in oil. Obviously, it wasn't his fault rolls%20eyes.gif It's a very wide double cupboard in the corner so I struggled to reach the back. Not what I want to be doing at 7am. Still, I have a bit more storage space now - I threw the breadmaker out.

All the ham and turkey has been sliced and frozen. I won't need to do a proper shop for about 3 weeks, I'll just need to buy fruit, milk and bread.

I've worked out how much I'll be spending on birthdays, a holiday, Easter and Christmas for next year, added it all up and divided it into weekly amounts. I've also allowed a little bit for windows (will be doing those one at a time). The cash will be withdrawn from the bank every week and put into a sparkly purple box, along with a list of spends. I tried splitting the money into separate pots but I never have the exact amount of change - yes I've done it to the penny, lol.

I've made a diary, I just need to decorate the cover so I'll be doing that today.

Meant to say - do you remember me saying the cash machine didn't give me money but my account registered it as withdrawn? Well, I got the £200 back yesterday :T Gold star to the Co-op bank for nagging RBS about it, bah humbug to RBS who took 26 days to refund me :D

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Windy and wet underfoot here this morning. DH up and getting ready to go to work, no stupid early start today so he brought me a nice cuppa in bed. Boys still asleep. Work was quiet yesterday - just as well really as someone phoned in sick, boss wasn't happy as she had asked for the whole week off and was told she couldn't have it as she didn't have enough holiday left or it meant other people couldn't have time off and she has already had her quota of "peak time" hols - hey presto she goes "sick", I don't like to think badly of people but this is not the first time!! Dinner last night was fresh pasta and sauce - nothing to complicated. Friend will be here shortly as it's her BIL funeral today - I'm going to her MIL's to help prep the food etc this morning, then will go to the funeral and back to her MIL's to help with drinks and food etc - just hope he gets a good send off. Haven't a clue what we'll be having for dinner, want to get through today and then get back to being more OS.
Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Hope you all had a good Christmas. Itwas a quietone her, although the boyshad a ball. I have been keeping my headdown, mobile phonehas been off, and anyone who needed me just called the house. OH had been commenting sarcastically about my phone useage, so I took the hint :o

Wentbacl to work yesterday, and am in today and tomorrow then off til the ninth :j I made my official request to be considered for redundancy yesterday, they are still saying they don't want volunteers, but hopefully that will change.

I have started my sistercas fund again. I have also started a new blog/diary which I am hopinh touse to chronicle the changes I plan on making to my life in 2012. I am quite determined this will be a watershed year in my life.

OS the WM is on with the bed sheets, tumbler is tumbling and I am about to finish my tea and get off to work.

Big hugs to everyone in need, have a great day.

  • Hi All
Patentgirl, Yes I have a bright pink kindle cover & as I take my kindle everywhere with me I'm hoping it will provide some protection for it. I learned from hubby's mistake, he bought a black cover for his & can never find it when it left on our black setee or black table.
Jackie, is it an online blog? If so add a link to your profile, I'm so nosy & always looking to see how other people are managing.

    Morning All,

DGS came at tea time last night and spent 3hrs wearing us out until bedtime at 8. He slept in a proper bed last night as it used to be his travel cot but he is far too big for that now. Off he went at 8 with his little monkey and didn't hear a peep until 6.40 this morning. Also had a dry nappy this morning but did the biggest wee on his potty this morning:rotfl:even though it took ages to potty train him he seems to have cracked both day and night at the same time:j he is such a good little boy, just sat watching bob the builder and eating his cornflakes:D
Once I have taken the little one home mid morning I will have a tidy round and pull something out of the freezer for tea, whatever we have will be with salad as I am craving juicy veg and fruit.
I need to get rid of this tin of roses, I can't resist them and dip my hand in every time I pass. Might try and find a recipe to use them up.
DH has a busy day at work today and the two boys are in bed just to make a change. Going to persuade the younger one to get his hair cut today, he looks like a yetty. He has thick wavy hair that grows out instead of down:cool:
It's awful here, cold wet and windy so any washing will go on the maiden. Family party tonight but we are not going. It's at a pub and we just can't afford to spend the extra money just now.
Will save ourselves for New Year.
I want to do some financial planning and maybe keep a spending diary this year. I love your idea for present buying Tru, may try that and also going to do the Sistercas fund this year as well.
    Have a good day all J x
