Hi Everyone
Me too. I have fallen off the food throwing away wagon. I did message squeaky last week as no one had posted on this thread for ages. Maybe i should have just posted here instead.
I looked back and the last time I posted on this thread was March
The amount of food i have thrown away over the last few months is not good.
I have been saving my brown bananas to make banana bread, so i now have a freezer full of bananas but no banana bread yet!!!
We have a food composting bin which the council collect every week. When i started on this thread at the beginning of the year I was putting less and less in the bin. At the moment it is full every week.
Hope to hear from people soon

I'm glad it's not just me!
The compost bin has gone out tonight for collection tomorrow morning, & it doesn't look too bad, mostly wood shavings from the hamsters' cages. But there's too much food hidden under that.
I've not made stock for ages, or thought about what we've thrown away. I've had some crises at work this year, that have made being old style hard as all my energy had gone there & not where it belongs, looking after my children & myself.
But things are getting better now. I refuse to feel guilty about the 2 apples from the bag from L1dl that were so brown & rotting away the day I bought them, or any of the green potatoes out of the big bag also from L1dl. But I won't be buying veg from there again!
I do need to tackle DS1 not eating his porridge (or, I suspect, any other breakfast) & it ending up in the bin. I've left this mornings porridge for him to re-heat for his supper instead of making fresh...0 -

I have two teen daughters - both do not like eating before 9am in the morning -tried for years to make them eat but gave up year ago - less hassle. If they want something(and it's rare they do, they make it them selves but usually its just either a bit of toast or pitta or normally just a drink which is usually milk!)
But must admit I love porridge,I take it to work in a flask everyday. Have started to add handful of raisins, tiny bit of nutmeg and a spoonful of either honey or golden syrup. Its lovely! Also have added chopped apple and honey, even tried it with chocolate and chilli, which certainly warmed me up!Crazy Clothes Challenge 2012 £57.20/£100,CCC 2013 £68.67/£100 ,CCC 2014 £94.32/£100

I was the same, couldn't eat that early in the morning, if I did I'd just end up feeling sick. Even now I only have fruit.
Think I should join in with this again. To start off, tonight I threw away a bit of milk that was left from cooking tea. I had used most of the milk to make sauce but couldn't keep the spare bit there was to use for anything else, it'd had fish cooking in it!0 -

Chocolate & chilli porridge, yum! Wow, I'd never thought of that before. The annoying thing is, he loves breakfast, he will eat 6 weetabix, and has eaten 8 before (though he then didn't want any lunch...). It's getting cold though, and both boys agreed it was time to change from weetabix to porridge. Will sit him down & interrogate him to find out what he will eat & what time he needs to get up if he's going to eat properly before 6th form... Or I could facebook message him

Fish milk is only good for cats. Or dogs. Or the bin. I'd have done the same!
Well, DS1 wouldn't heat up yesterday morning's porridge to have last night for supper, & it was still there this morning when I got back from taking DS2 to school. So, it's got to go in the bin. My parents live the other side of town from me, but come under a different borough council, & can put all food & garden stuff in their compost bin. I'd feel better if I could do that, instead, with my compost bin, all I can put in it are garden stuff & fruit & veg trimmings. But then, I guess, the temptation is to throw stuff away that you could use...0 -
since I've been trying to eat more healthy foods, I'm struggling with food going bad in the fridge, previously the fridge was mostly empty.
milk is dine, cravendale is the only one that keeps, but fresh fruit and veg, I find really difficult to finish.
I was at a friends place and had a bag of spinach with me and convinced her to take half the bag.
I can't get through enough of the stuff before it goes off, humous I manage, just about, cream cheese always goes bad, and veg and fruit. I will still eat even if ifs starting to wither, that's fine, or counts cut bits off that have gone bad and eat the rest, but still lots goes bad.
so much easier to buy stuff for more than one person .0 -
clapped out veg becomes soup in my house In fact I made a batch yesterday from a couple of slightly wrinkled leeks and half a dozen small spud ,enough there with a stock cube and a few herbs to make me two half literes of soup one of which went into the freezer and the other I will use today and tomorrow for lunch or as a starter for dinner. Now apart from chopping and freezing i have a couple of red peppers (not a problem ) and a green one in the fridge to think of a recipe for .Why is it I always seem to be left with a green one?

I know you can freeze hummus, so searched about freezing cream cheese http://www.stockpilingmoms.com/2011/02/can-you-freeze-cream-cheese/ Apparently you can though it goes crumbly so is better for cooking than for spreading. She has another page on freezing hummus too!
I try to just buy the amount of fruit & veg we'll eat, so only get about 3 bananas at a time, for instance.clapped out veg becomes soup in my house In fact I made a batch yesterday from a couple of slightly wrinkled leeks and half a dozen small spud ,enough there with a stock cube and a few herbs to make me two half literes of soup one of which went into the freezer and the other I will use today and tomorrow for lunch or as a starter for dinner. Because no-one likes the green one? At least, no-one does really here.
Had leftover calzone for lunch today, DS2 ate all his breakfast. Don't know about DS1 as he was still in bed when I left to take DS2 to school - no 6th form till this afternoon today :cool:0
