    Harrumph. *sulks* Just harrumh.

Followed instructions to make soup with new food processor, ignoring my own better judgment. "Puree raw veg with water and knob butter, heat and serve"

Vile. _pale_ Smells vile, tastes vile. Kids keep poking the spoon in the saucepan and looking at me with pleading eyes. How can I rescue it????

Have basic veg plus mixed herbs and a tin of toms, salt & pepper. It's getting a bit better since I added the toms and herbs....but what shall I try now? I can't waste it *wails*

Me to Son: It needs something...what does it need?
    Son: *sniffs* Binning

    *sob*

If you really do end up throwing it away my suggestion is that you take the cost out of the entertainment budget..... it certainly made me laugh!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Thanks x k

Now I've stopped laughing......sorry, but that's so funny, your son sounds a comedy genius ;)

How about a pasta bake? I normally make this with veg on the way out, used raw, with dried pasta & tinned toms, mixed up, covered with foil & put into oven. The consistancy can be altered by adding water / stock as required, but I guess you probably won't need to. The pasta uses up a lot of the water in the stock / toms / random soup mix as it cooks. You could also add sausage / chorizo / any old cooked meat left over, also herbs to change overall flavour.
I normally cook about 180 deg C, about 45 mins, but keep checking until done, and can leave in the oven for bit longer without any problem.
This also fridges & reheats well for a quick meal or snack.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi everyone,

I've got half a pack of puff pastry opened in my fridge - it's been open for two weeks - will it be ok to use, do you think?

    rumbly x

Personally - if it looks ok and smells ok I would use it.... but then I do have cast iron guts after many years of self abuse!! :D

    Hey all,

What can I do with an open bottle of ginger wine? OH bought it but neither of us can drink it, its gross! I don't want to throw it away but can't think what to do with it

How about using it in baking, in place of the liquid used - would go well with chocolate or vanilla?
Or maybe use in a marinade with a little honey for chicken or beef, for a stirfry?

How much store do you set by use by dates for nuts and herbs?

    rumbly x

Hi, As these are natural products they do go off, but not normally in a way that would make you ill. Herbs will start to lose their essential oils, so will become less fragrant over time - you can just add more if they still have enough taste. With nuts, the oil in them becomes rancid over time. This will be more noticeable with softer nuts with a higher oil content, particularly if they're shelled, which is why macadamia nuts, for example can sometimes be bitter, whereas walnuts rarely are. So taste nuts - if they're bitter they're not good for eating!

I made a chilli with a jar of sauce stuff I found at the back of the cupboard last week and it wasn't until I had eaten some and portioned the rest up and frozen it that I saw the date on the side of the jar BBF 2007' It tasted ok and I'm still here so I think I shall eat the rest as and when needed I don't think it matters too much, but I always use my nose if it smells ok then it probably is ok :):)No waste in my house at all

I'd simmer it on a low heat stirring occasionally. Raw veg soup sounds bleuh. Then add a stock cubeand a slosh of cooking sherry. Then invite me
