As for your leftover tortilla, why don't you do a burrito type thing with it? Stuff it with your leftover fajita stuff and some meat. Then cover it in a tomato based sauce, bit of grated cheese and bake. You could serve it with the sour cream you have left.
I'll try it, just not sure I'll have the meat for it by tomorrow, nevermind if it doesn't work - I'll reuse the filling and it will only be 20p wastage. Will let you know how it goes! Cheers! :T0 -
Gonna mash up any old bananas and freeze them from now on, thanks to whoever said that.Savings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0

I do that and I weigh them & make sure each pot has the right amount for my banana bread recipe then I just get a pot out when I need one.
Someone also said they taste nice straight from the freezer whizzed up with some cream if you have a bit left - planning on trying that tomorrow!

so glad I joined this challenge...had to defrost the freezer the other day and had some peas lurking at the bottom, so made some leek (from freezer) & potato soup and put the peas in as well and froze it all.GC - Oct £36.17/£31

Evening all,
I found this thread while I was looking for inspiration for what to do with a chicken carcass and think it will be worth me joining!
I currently have my chicken simmering away to make my first ever batch of stock, so excited!!
I think I am going to aim for less than £10 food wastage a month to begin with as I currently have no idea at all how much I throw away0 -
I'd like to join this challenge, I am still wading through the usual over supply of holiday food and determined not to waste or buy anymore food until it's all gone. I am sure there will be some casualties, although I am generally quite good at using stuff up; my biggest downfall is salvaging leftovers and saving stuff in the freezer and meaning to do something with it 'later'.
When later inevitably comes, I will either have gone off the idea, or the thing will be unrecognisable, unlabelled or freezer burned and I end up throwing it away eventually.
I have no idea how much I waste or how I might put a value on some homemade things, like lumps of biscuit dough and random things that end up dumped in the freezer.
So far this year I have only thrown out some leftover pastry trimmings I had set to one side in the fridge and never got around to using.Mortgage

So far this year I have only thrown out some leftover pastry trimmings I had set to one side in the fridge and never got around to using.
I roll my leftover pastry out very thin, sprinkle some grated cheese on it and dust lightly with smoked paprika.
Roll it up like a swiss roll to get an even mix and then knead it like any ordinary pastry to get a thorough mix.
Then roll it out to half an inch (one centimetre) and cut it into strips.
Put them on a tray and bung them in the oven with whatever it is you are baking. Keep an eye on them, they may only need fifteen minutes or so. When golden brown - take them out.

Yesterday poached a whole salmon 2.2kg (picked up 2 reduced from mr T on 27th dec for £6 each) in fish kettle with veg herbs wine and water. Had some for dinner with home grown green beans out of freezer, some in fridge for rich Sunday breakfast and 10 portions in the freezer. Also have 5L of fish stock in the freezer ready to poach the second salmon sometime and have all the poaching veg in a pot to make soup later. Did have to bin about 10p of iceberg lettuce that had gone far beyond it's best (do those plastic knives really stop lettuce going brown?).
So far this month I'm up to about 50p-60p wasted and 4 NSD.
Just about to start planning for next week in an A4 note book, each page divided into 4, from a posting I read yesterday. Good Lucy everyone for week 2.0 -

Bananas taste great just peeled and frozen (I have a container from Lakeland with lolly sticks but you can just use a freezer bag), then take them out and eat frozen - tastes like banana icecream!0 -
I would like to join in this challange, we have had a big sort out of our storecupboards due to having an infestation of little moth like things(if anyone knows what these are and how to keep them at bay I would be very gratful) so quiet a bit of stuff did get binned:mad:
but it has made me more determind to us up what I've got in:D
Yesturday we had shepards pie that was in the freezer just enough for me and the other half, at lunch time I made Broccoli and stilton soup Other half said "I don't Like Broccoli but i'll try some" he had two bowl full:eek: but I still have some more stilton left so some time this week I will put this in a quiche or pasta.
