Are you sure you want to bother with these email addresses? I opted for googlemail which I keep permanently independently of who privides my BB.

I do this with my freeserve address which is great for receiving mail but still can't use outlook to send email.

    Is google the same?
  • Yes, it is possible to send and receive gmail from Outlook (Express). I do that myself.

But to send mail from Outlook (Express) you will need to use a smtp server setting that will allow sending that address.

Some isp smtp servers will send it Ok, but some don't
I use 1&1 mailboxes (nice n cheap :) ) and also allows use of their authenticated smtp server
    auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
    which is very useful.

I'm with Newnet, and i can also make it work with one of their smtp's

What isp and what smtp server setting are you using?

EDIT...... i should have added that only googlemail accounts are available in UK, but if you are happy with that, then this should work fine

    pop.googlemail.com
    smtp.googlemail.com

What i should have said was that i wasn't happy using it as googlemail and wanted to use it as gmail.com
The way i said earlier works fine for that. Just set up the googlemail account in Outlook, renamed as gmail, and use a different smtp setting.

Thanks very much Guesswho for information. Found bandwith now, following your instructions. Very impressed with your speed of 6.3 Mbps - very fast. When I spoke to Newnet yesterday they said my speeds would probably increase as the 10 days went on.

It is so much faster than I was getting before.
