Warning To All Sellers

A similar thing happened to us when we sold our car on ebay a little while ago. We had someone who outbid everyone else at the last minute and they turned out to be a scammer from abroad trying to get us to accept a cheque in someone else's name. When we checked their history they had spent the whole day going down the list of cars ending that day and placing really high bids on them all to make sure that they won them. Loads of people had their auctions ruined and everyone then got the same email about the cheque.
I suppose these scammers carry on doing this as some sellers must take the bait and get conned.
Ebay are aware of this as it happens quite often, but don't seem to be doing anything about it!Nice to save.0 -
Personally when i check bid history on people who have zero or low feedback and i am in any way suspicious i email them asking to provide full name, address and telephone number within 24 hours or their bid will be removed. I also explain this is because of people bidding and not paying...
i have no qualms about cancelling someones bid who has zero feedback, just joined ebay that day and hasn't bothered replying to my email - not much use if they only bid in the last minute though!0 -

I guess most of them use LotSnipe or similar in the last few secs, and too late for the bid to be cancelled.0 -

We had the very same thing about a month ago. In the end we lost about £90 on the car. 2nd bidder didnt want it and 3rd bidder was £90 lower. Ebay were aware of the guy at least 3 hours b4 our auction ended and did nothing. You also cant get hold of anyone at eaby. I am currently looking into taking ebay to court over it. But they refuse to give me a UK based mailing address or their UK company registration number or the names of the directors. All info which I was sure they had to give out if asked for it. Am also considering reporting Ebay for theft as have taken money off of a credit card when I told them they could not use that card.
Ebay are the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.0 -

Ive had had problems with sellers and buyers just lately so thanks a lot for this information. I didn't realise you could do this!0 -

It looks rather suspiciously like kids who are rather bored messing about. On the other hand i could be compleatly wrong. Idiotic all the same :cool:0 -
Re-listing is free if the item sells second time aroundcriminal_smile wrote:Perhaps a more cynical soul than myself might think that Ebay had 'employed' someone to set up false bids, thereby forcing all those sellers to relist......at full price of course.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -
