cold water fill on a washing machine
    is fine
why stress the inbuilt thermostat further
    washing machines
do not last further with calgon

Maybe fine for you, but for me it is heating water unnecessarily, I already have a tank of hot heated cheaply on gas. Yet cold fill achieves A+ status for eco friendlyness - Total nonsense in my opinion.
Don't understand your reference to thermostat, please explain.

Oh, plus the wife does not like the longer programmes, just to avoid sexism-neither do I
