Washing machine with only cold fill

  • Disagree Keystone. I think that cutting off a moulded plug and replacing it with a removable one is far more of a bodge and when water may be present I'd say its more dangerous too.

OP, you don't need a plumber to connect your new machine. We went from a hot and cold to a cold fill machine but didn't realise till the machine actually arrived when complete panic set in. However they come with a full set of instructions and it's really easy to do it yourself - I'm really cack-handed but managed it just fine.
As far as the plug goes, my only question would be whether cutting the plug off and replacing it might invalidate the warranty? Could the hole be made bigger, as others have said?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I agree with laurz121 on this one! It is only a bodge if you don't do it properly. A trailing lead socket as it name implies is meant to be trailing or in the case where it may get wet, you can have it out of the way. It doesn't need to be attached to a fixed surface.

Trailing socket extensions are used in other applications. For instance, people use them to extend garden/power tools.

loulou41 - Would be useful to know where the hole from the cupboard is? If the hole is above, the socket dangling a few inches from the hole would be fine.

In which case then you have missed the point. The OP wants to get his supply cable through a small hole to enable it to be plugged into a powerpoint that is in an adjacent cubboard so actually would be moving it AWAY from any potential water hazard.

    Cheers

That of course is the best suggestion yet.

No electrically a trailing lead in a location where it is not easily accessible, may be subject to water ingress and for a semi-premanent installation is professionally a bodge whichever way you look at it. It may not be considered so from a DIY perspective I would agree. In any case the trailing lead socket is just as exposed as a replaced plug so your agreement with the previous poster seems illogical and inconsistent.

Of course but thats an entirely different matter/usage.

I am fairly certain that i you remove a moulded plug from any appliance you void your warranty!!

Who is disconnecting the old machine? Connecting washing machine is a very simple job and not worthy of even a £20 fee. It will not even take 5 minutes to do and does not require tools!!

So you might as well use a trailing lead socket! The advantage being with a trailing lead socket that you can quickly and easily remove the plug to move the appliance in an emergency. ;)

No old chap because the trailing lead socket in your solution will be in the same location as the washing machine. A replaced plug will be in the adjacent cupboard. Exactly the point that laurz has missed.

It depends where the socket is located. Plenty of people have a socket for their washing machines behind it just above where it won't get wet.

There is no requirement to have the socket in a separate cupboard.

I agree it wouldn't be a good idea for the socket to be on the floor in this case.
