    Hi all
Some great tips on this thread. We live in the middle of nowhere and usually get a weekly delivery from Mr T, well after our car packing in before Christmas we've got a new (to us) one today - hooray !!

So this week I'm going to go to Aldi and Home Bargains to get groceries and go to Morrisons for anything else they don't stock, hopefully will save us some cash. I'll keep you posted.

What should I look for in Aldi? I've had cheese, cooked meats, and washing powder so far that has been good.

My Mum likes their jams, cereals, juice and tinned stuff, how is there fruit and veg? it's certainly a lot cheaper than the big supermarkets. Does it last well?

Enough of my questions for now :)

Was a bit bored earlier (oh dear, boredom normally results in spending for me!) so I went for a walk to the Turkish supermarket for some fresh bread and dips. Only spent £4.97 which wasn't bad as that included popping into L*dl too and getting 2 blocks of cheese. Total spend now up to £49.17 /£250.

The Turkish supermarket did have big cans (at least the size of 2 regular tinned tomato cans) of tomato paste for 99p. I wasn't sure if this was cheap but I think it is? I also didnt know what I would do with that much paste once opened though as I only normally use a couple of squirts from a tube so I didn't buy any this time.

Second grocery spend of the year, £1.35 for milk in the local shop. I've had 4 NSDs this week including Thursday, when I had to take a faulty CD back to Mr T's for an exchange, and didn't buy anything while I was there!

OH came home from work yesterday with a hamper pack, containing 2 pieces of cheese, a jar of pear and apple chutney and 2 bottles of cider which he was given for nothing, I love freebies, lol!

When I go to Ald* I usually go for tissues and toilet paper - really good quality paper goods for not much - even my Mum, a confirmed Charmin fan rates the Aloe Vera.
Also excellent for cheese - especially the 12 slices in a pack of Maasdam or Emmental (£1.49) or Edam/Gouda £1.36. We really like the tinned rice pudding, and the jars of anti pasta - and their ice cream bars are fine too. My TDS likes the cloudy lemonade . Your Mum's right about the cereals and their version of the choco liebnitz milk chocolate biscuits are lovely at less than half the posh price. HTH

  • Went to Aldi/MrT today and spent £33.85. That included enough washing powder, softener and coffee for the rest of the month or longer. Also bought enough milk, bread and yogurts for the full week so I won't have to pop back again and will stop me impulse buying while I'm there:D
Feb GC £80 per week (Well I'm gunna try:whistle:)

Have to admit that toilet rolls and tissues are two items I refuse to drop to the value lines for - they really don't stand up to use, and I end up using heaps more at a time meaning they end up costing at least twice what I predicted :o

I just look out for a good deal on a brand I like (the Koala ones) as I'm coming towards the end of my supplies, and then do a ma-hooo-sive stock up. In Nov 2010 I got enough to keep me going into this year (just about on the last roll now), and in Oct of last year I topped up my supplies to take me into 2013 ;)

CW18 - have you seen the L*dl leaflet for the 14th/15th Jan and other offers from the 12th? I think they're having C*shelle 24 packs on offer at £6.99 - from the 12th if I remember rightly.

    Link here

EDIT: I've just read your post properly and realise you're not down to your last roll - sorry!

Did my big weekly shop in Sainsbob and thanks to everyone on here referring to vouchers, I remembered to pay with Nectar points and ended up with most of a week's shop for £2.05 instead of £82.05. :)

Took back the expensive water filter cartridge to Mr T and when the NYM on the Customer Service Desk asked if it was the wrong one I had the b***s to say no, it was just £2.50 more than somewhere else (TDS mortified but Mr T NYM smiled and said well done!) £5.50 in but then bought 2 cereal, meatballs (2 for £5) and freezer bags for £10.43 :(

Got most of next week's meals planned and using meat from the freezer. Trying not to buy things I don't need, even if they are on offer as think I have an offer addiction...

Finally had to throw some of the Christmas cheese mountain away (part smell, part running around on its own) - grated lumps of cheddar and frozen these for sauces and toppings.

Loving the freezer storage solutions but resisting the bags as would need to pay for these whereas some ice cream, fridge BB and fruit in juice pots are brilliant for stocks and soups.

Well done everyone. Really interesting thread :T
