I too think hallway is a good place to start. I hadn't considered visitors, but when you get up in the morning and stand at the top of your stairs, looking down onto a tidy organised clean hallway gives you a 'lift' and even if the next room you enter is messy you'll not come all the way back down from the 'lift' whereas looking at a messy hallway can make your heart sink to start with.

Another vote for doing the hall here - when I first came on this forum, that was a tip somebody gave me and it really did help! I put coat hooks up, decluttered a year's worth of mail/junk, and felt that I could at least open the door if someone knocked (letting them in is still a bit of an issue though!:o). And it's one thing I've managed to keep up :)
  • I haven't read all the thread yet, but will definitely be doing so, I'm exactly the same, I just seem to be so disorganised :( I'm loving the school uniform idea, both my children have got a spare drawer in their chest of drawers, so think this will have to become the school uniform drawer :)
I'm determined that 2012 is going to be the year I get organised and save money :j

wow got a phone call from a friend tonight and she is really depressed i'm really worried about her. I didn't know the extent of how she feels she is a mummy of 2 babies and has a hubby but she feels like she doesn't want to be here anymore. Hubby makes a lot of things hard for her and she has been to doctors today and they said heres some tablets, but i am really worried for her cause i love her so much and it really upsets me what can i do to help her does anyone know ?We chatted and i was really silly and made her laugh loads but wanna give her a great year but what can i do i said lets go on a valentines dinner and we'll celebrate everything on the calendar and even paint our faces for everything lol I want her to be so happy cause she deserves it she has been through a terrible lot in her life and i want to help make it better> I know it's totallly off topic but it's about making another mum/ person happy this year so any ideas/ help is appreciated xx

    Could it be postnatal depression?

when you say she has 2babies twins or different ages?

What does her hubby do? mine just gets stressed and moans a lot.

    You a good freind hun.

I have a freind who thourght was good mate but barly seen her for last 2months and shes only rings when she wants favours ie daughter picked up or looked after.

Novemember was totally crap month and could of done with her support.

    ideas spring to mind

    babysitting
    pamper pack
maybe when batchcook make her few homemade readymeals save her cooking one night
or take round takeaway, wine , dvd and chocs one night have girls night in.

maybe shes stressed see if anything she needs help with to take pressure off?

Im not too stressed out or teetering over edge yet.
infact feeling quite positive have up and down days like everyone I guess.

The weather has huge impact on my mood.

Nancy888- wasent being perfectionist sadly he really did do a dismall job.
although even when clean the avacado suite looks rubbsih where white gleams.

I must add hubby mostly irons his own uniform

if get stuff staright out drier and hang up staight away

    forgot to mention

we have small chest in hallway.
put all gloves, scarfs and hats in as always losing them
january/febuary can be cols months last 2years had snow

    have put brollies in loft.

    Tommorow will tackle actual hallway.

The hallway table gets far too cluttered have

    loose change jar
    phone
    random small box of crap
    paperwork
    keys
mobiles as next to ytable we have extension reel with chargers to phone alll mobile/sat nav same place.
    purse/wallet
    hubbys fags and stuff

above table have noticeboard not working for us as constantly overflowing.

    so changes im making

we already have boxed file to important paperwork and stuff dealt with.

going to get 3tier desk in tray and seperate need to do, need to do urgent and done and place on top of fridge out of kiddies reach!
getting new bigger noticeboard, huge blackboard for notes and going to make a huge month by month planner.

need some hooks in hall for everyons coats takes pressure then off cupbaord of doom under stairs..

Im born procrastater and worry about things that need to be dealt with so tommorow will ring sky/virgin.
next week update my tax credits
list as much stuff as possible for sale
    check emails daily
    enter 10comps a day.

    had lovley bath tonight.
hubby was jealous had cheese and ham toastie and salad for tea so quick and simple.

my gorgeous baby boy now has a lovey room and is currently sleeping in own cot in own room.wood floor looks fab todl hubby leave door off as as makes room seem so much bigger just needs new accessories and bedding next.

bid on decent tv table on ebay for £5 fingers crossesd I win.

Its wood but has some glass panels so works when doors shut and it locks as toddler cant be trusted withy wii games and dvds.

    my room loosk respectable again.

still not completed the lounge so will try that tommorow.
hubbys helping me clean kitchen and scrub oven tommorow and repaint some bits as landlorsd inspecting next week. well not so much inspecting more corner cupboarsd falling off and fires not worked in weeks and hes being a cheapo so trys to fix stuff himself.

My landlord does not mind home improvemenst if adds value.
all we done is repaint same colour white or magnolia used gloss as easier to wipe mucky fingerprints off and drawings.
Think you can get kiddyproof paint too.

we have replaced all the flooring apart from landing and girls room now.
We lived here since 2005 and proably be here least another 3years so try to make it homley the cheap beige carpet was threadbare and where we rented rug doctor(amazing cleaner by way) it had bubbled was getting me down so we got laminate cheap as hubby works in diy.

Dragon cry its spooky how similar.

from what I said before we rent dont own sadly.

weighloss last half stone as already lost stone half joined slimming world in june when baby was 10weeks old as dident want to think people would say shes had 3kids and let herself go plus had booked joint baptism for 2youngest in august and wanted to look my best as was 3days before giving birth to baby no 2 when baptised eldest and look back and how fat and bloated in pics I was
Lost my way with diet over december but ready to get back on track.
Going to classes keep me straight and narrow found it hard to diet my myself.

Sorry you dident get on well with your mum.
my mum drives me crazy but should be another couple of months before she visits again who knows might be tidy and clean by then.

Thursaday usually a holy day when 2yeasr old does day @ nursery 9-5 downside is the cost but gives me some time with baby, to do shopping and arrands is hard with toddler. plus have 2school runs and take eldest to gym so nonstop really. she does not get funding until jan 2013 and so clingy so we started her earlier.

My 5year old cant help be messy will get better when shes in school.

babys not really messy apart from sick but he is moving and grabbing things these days.

Im sure with practice baking might get better and wiull bring grocery costs down kids like it even if hubby doesnt but swear its my oven burns stuff all time.

Did you make the gingerbread house?

When it comes to interiors like a collour scheme or theme but tend to bring them in with accessories rather than the walls.

Rachel G- to think I missed out on the entertaining book and the dvds.Secretly loved that show. But anthea does live in a mansion!
glad im not the only one and I confessed my secret shame in a safe place:rotfl:.

2012 -Thanks again so much motivating me might have semi tidy/clean house by new year.

best get to bed been watching sex in the city.
Wonder how carrie bradshaw with such a small compact open plan apartment can look so good? its like the flipping ikea catalougue.
when i go into ikea they set up rooms which are fab.
hubby sadly gets stressed out by ikea so do not go much.
Maybe in september when toddlers 3 as they have free play.

    right waffling again.

nighty night. dont let the bedbugs bite

oh nearly forgot fresh bedding again just hoping no one has wee accident tonight.

  • Did you make the gingerbread house?

Yes I had a go at making one like Kirstie Allsopp's one from her Christmas show this year. It came out very well and the girls enjoyed decorating the various bits and eating it ;)

Slow start today as I managed a lie in till 8.30am.Was woken by my 2 cats climbing onto the bed wanting attention. My eldest daughter had let them in because she thought they looked cold :D Oh well.

Need to make a start in the kitchen and sort out some room in the garage so I can clear bits from the house to go to the charity shops etc.

    One cup of tea first.....

    DC xx

I have mixed feelings about kirsty alsop on grounds she has a mansiion and help.

I love the things she does dont get me wrong
    love the ideas
But at same time makes me feel even more rubbish.
Her cottage is so lovley but dont think she spends huge amount time there as she rents it out for over £1000 a week!
Liked it when she helped other people sort their houses but they had large budgets.
Last year did xmas party and tryed to make paper mache pinnata snowman but dident work out quite as grand(phil and kirstys perfect xmas)saved on planner to torture my self more, its like my craft !!!!!!:rotfl:

Sometimes see things I like and thinbk couldent do that.
But you inspired me to try gingerbread house as have family party to go to new years day.

Wow sarah jayne you put me to shame I done nothing tge byt get me and kids dressed. I sort of go through phases with comps enter like 400 in one month win nothing then give up.
Although have won a few raffles at daughters nursery buy lots as know odds are good won family day out won same at summer fete so pleased:D

We dont play lottory but both me and hubby buy occasional scatchcard wait all day to scratch it whilst dreaming of winning to sometimes find out we won £1.might play helath lottory as at least goes to good causes.

    My plans for today are

go lidls via the spar to look at reductions
The girls room is mammoth task dont think be made in one day
so going to tackkle clothes and vac pac the summer collection:j
going to iron 5days worth of uniform
    pack gym bag

get changebag packed and ready to go at all times

last post said brollies in loft I mean brollies in porch.

    clean kitchen floor

will finish decluttering the lounge so thats one room complety done.

bath 3kids meant to do for last 2days need to get done
    but hubby has dentist later

    possibly make some chutney
    will bake bread tommorow
    need to do gingerbread
    maybe make some mice pies
    make some baby quiches.

all this is for presents for family havent seen yet.

The cooking I love its all the cleaning that drags me down but will learn to love it 2012 look at babys boys clean tidy room and makes me smile.

6yerar olds planning her birthday party in 6weeks time.
    I do love doing partys!

    girls currently playing on wii
baby boy happily dragging himself accross a semi clean lounge floor I hoover that room twice a day:eek:

Need new diary . last 2yeasrs running got dodo book which is fab as get to schedule al5 5 of us on one page kidn of looks like a rota grid but need to make decent wall planner too!

I do kind of toy rotate a smost toys stored in chests so gets lost for few months at bottom.

I do try and split so

    dolls in 1
    lego in another
    crafts stuff in another

want to get small playtable with draw for my little boys room.
also think sheving might eb answer in kids rooms as dont have much avaialiable floor space.

So my thing this year is to tyy and ultilise any space can in atidy organised way maybe some nice small boxes all way accross windwo sill in girls room.

On topic of toys and other things that need batteries

Im buying a new screwdriver desiugned to fit all toys ist about 36 but looks fab.

Most of toys not played with as out of batteries so

going to buy few packs batteries
    replace all batetries on

    cot toys
    baby toys
    toddler toys

and bring old toys back to life as 2year old loves elmo.

got remotes need replacing and another remote needs new batteries.

on subject of socks all furture socks be the same either light or dark as easier to match up!

    right best get started.

drab day here raining and still have more sw leaflets to drop off round estate.

It's not normal for me to do that much but I got up at 8 as was awake and just got going LO didn't wake till 9.15 so I managed to get loads done, he can sleep through washer/dryer going so that's lucky (we live on 1 floor so he's not upstairs) Thou he's down for a nap now after wineing away in his tired way, he didn't get naps xmas/boxing day and both late nights so he's catching up....thankfully he's ALWAYS been a good sleeper at night once he slept through...we got lucky

I've just had 15mins sit down and play about on here, so now off to sort washing as washer has stopped and as LO in bed I can start on the bathroom and work out what to have for dinner.

Will add it's dam cold in here after having the window open but I shall get used to it and won't not open it again as it's FRESH AIR lol

I was planning on going Lidl this morning but LO changed that plan so will go after lunch now

A few jobs need doing round the place and I shall write that list soon, thou won't get onto OHs case just yet as he's under weather atm and just about managing to drag himself to work, he would phone in sick but they get £60 a week extra on top of normal wage if they go to work, if they call in sick they lose it, and we really need that for the budget so he carries on even thou he would of rather stay in bed, he does it for us and that means so much bless him he's a good guy

I've not entered many comps last week as been busy with xmas/family ect but will get back into it soon. It's a good hobby of mine and I won about £500 of stuff last year so hope to beat it next year

  • Gailey - Don't laugh, but I have a (very dusty) copy of 'How Clean Is Your House'! I might dust it off and have a look through it.
Leave the bathroom - your husband has cleaned it. It might not be to your standard, but at least he did it! How would you feel if you did a job for him and he came along and did it again? Would you want to do anything else for him? Let it go a bit, lovely.

2012 - My husband used to leave his wet towel on the bed every morning. Every morning I would pick up after him then I decided to leave the wet towel on the bed and guess what? At bedtime that night he got into a wet bed. Never did it again!

I've been told off by OH many times for even hinting he hasn't done something the right way, ESP when it comes to LO. Before I had LO i used to work as a nanny so have my set ways of doing things, well I have to very hard bite my lips if OH is doing it another way as he does get hurt by me going do it my way you don't do it like that....still after 16months I can't hold back at times but I'm a lot better. If he cleaned the bathroom I would be in so much shock I wouldnt be able to do anything let alone moan he cleaned it hehe (thou he has done it a couple of times)

He's the clean person out of the 2 of us and it's caused so many fall outs how I don't do enough ect Which are all true and he's not being harsh I do the bare min and not even that at times putting off till another month let alone day.

I have promised him I shall improve as it's my fault we fight over it as it's me thats not doing it. LO is an easy child thou is a very boyish boy and can be up to trouble before I have time to blink but on the whole he's great lol

I have to get better, he moaned at me other day I only do a good tidy/clean if we have ppl over and don't we deserve to live in a tidy/clean place all the time.....that was like a hit home moment he's dam right. He works long hours why should he come home to a mess.

I shall be a better houseperson next year, I've promised him and I don't like breaking promises
