I've had a look on the freebies board, only downside is waiting for them to arrive. Was hoping to make a few things with my sewing machine but arrived broke so having to make when that comes back. Popcorn, now that's an idea, if I can get some containers and do little tubs/boxes etc popcorn, or even paper bags, good thinking!!!

We're doing a hamper type basket, well probably a box with things in, but same idea, all just bringing something each week for it (hence the jam making)

I can get milk, but had a problem with delivery this week, 6 pints short, and still haven't been able to catch milkwoman in.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

the corn that we bought was only 99p for 500g from the organic shop and the cooking instructions were on the back......

on the milk subject -have you tried your butchers? Most butchers do milk bread & stuff.....

  • Yep, looked at the butcher, baker and candlestick maker, ;) no sorry, fruit n veg, but must admit, that I only looked very briefly in the butchers and bakers, will have another go next week. Might even ask how much the milkman charges...

Told DD about my milk shopping in Tescos. She thinks I'm getting obsessed...hm

only thing i forgot was sour cream for fajitas (i have yog but OH ilkes sour cream, told him he'll have to buy it if he wants it

    Rach,

What we tend to do for "sour cream" is to make mock sour cream .. and just add lemon juice to yoghurt .... it works for us, worth a shot?

I've been contemplating this thread a lot today, especially as whilst I buy a lot of things locally etc., I'm not intending to totally give up shopping in supermarkets..... ok, so I was contemplating it whilst driving to Waitrose. There, I've said it ;)

However, what I was thinking about was "milk" mainly. Now, in our household we buy only organic milk. Now, with this in mind, I know that I cannot buy this locally (not milkman nor local shops), so it is either Morrisons or Waitrose. But there is a bigger bit to come ... it is important to realise how much money that the supermarket/dairy actually give to the farmer for a pint. Some supermarkets act ethically .... many don't - you may wish to take a look at this URL ==> Here

On the plus side of our family's shopping habits -
all meat (bar chicken, because we prefer organic, or locally produced free range) comes from local farms,
eggs are local free range from local shop,
veg is a mix of town market and Waitrose/Morrisons (as once again we prefer organic / locally produced).
Flour and yeast is mainly from local health food shop
Oatmeal is currently from Waitrose, but very often bought from either farm shop (local organic), or health food shop (organic, but of unknown origin).
Apricots / raisins etc - health food shop
Bread - hand bake (ok Kenwood Chef bake)
    Cakes - hand bake
    Biscuits - hand bake
Fish - internet bought, company 9 miles down the road :) (However, am going to try the local market, as the fish man is there on a Sat)

Veg is the one thing I would like to change, I would like to have a decent source of locally grown organic veg ... waiting for the local box scheme to return my call.

Potatoes - 25kg sack of estima potatoes from garage - £5.50

Main areas of difficulty - milk / alcohol / staples
    GC - March 2024 -
  • Tesco has noticed im missing, 1st email today offering me half price delivery :rotfl: It must be about 8 weeks now since I stepped foot in a supermarket.

Compost bin half full, Dustbin half empty :T

Spending tesco points now on days out as will not be receiving anymore :A

£42 spend in farm shop today full dinners for a week for 5 with leftovers for lunches.

OH & ds just made cakes for treats for kids for weekend, spending tomorrow taking kids and dogs round thetford forest whilst all those other lost tesco souls spend there day up and down the isles, being brain washed into buying food they dont want :rotfl:
2013 the year to be more organised :p

Got to admit that I'm a big fan of organic milk too but having said that I also like to know where my milk comes from - Perhaps why it's so easy to buy milk here is because we have at least 2 local producers Bethesda and Calon Wen. I'd rather buy Bethesda than Tescos Organic but I'd rather buy Calon Wen Organic given the choice.

    Oh alcohol!
Virgin wines are doing a fair trade case £62.99 for 12 bottles & delivery - I think if you order 2 cases delivery is free & also go through Quidco
