Umm (hesitantly puts hand in air) what's the food coop?
and do they have them in Pembrokeshire (last stop before the Irish Sea if you need to look it up on a map!)0 -
i'm still learning about it but it is basically a group of people ordering and buying together. so in this one, apparently we can decide what we want to order and then split the cost. i think it might be good, although i only use small quantities of things!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

oops, sorry. off topic!
here's some supermarket stuff (from todays Independent):
<"Supermarkets Vicki Hird
Vicki Hird is a campaigner for Tescopoly, an alliance which aims to show the "real side" of the supermarket giant.
"We put a website together in 2005 and we co-ordinate and help on a local level to fight supermarket applications. The battle needs to be won on a local, regional and national level, and the local level is very important. People power is a fantastic way to ensure we get a sustainable food system. Local people should have a say in how retailing is developed in their area. That is being undermined by the likes of Tesco. Consumers nowadays have quite a lot of power. We started a GM campaign a while ago which had had a big impact on supermarkets and led to change. I'm amazed by the response to the Tescopoly campaign. It's a time of fantastic movements at the moment. People are taking power, and they are asking for the right things.">

and from todays front page:
"Supermarkets
From Devon to Inverness, planning applications for superstores are being thwarted by residents' campaigns orchestrated on the internet. Tesco scrapped a superstore plan in Darlington last year following opposition and this week residents sank a Tesco plan for a £130m retail development in Tolworth, Surrey. Friends of the Earth is co-ordinating the protests across the country."

Never made it to asda to hand my application form in,gunna do it online instead.
Also never made it in time to catch the last half hour of the market for some cheap fruit and veg as a friend phoned me and I got side tracked.
So I think I saved myself a few bob there by staying in!
I really do like the idea of comparing the price of shopping locally to using supermarkets. Will be very interesting to find out what you pay a little extra for and how much you can save.
At a struggle the only supermarket I shall be using will be Ldles(sp?)I still dont really class that as a supermarket.
Does anyone use those weigh your own stuff shops?Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
hi... guys......competionscafe..... you've been busy again:T with all these links you are getting us..... you must scroll through the internet all day:D where as i just stay on mse/ebay all day:D .... will take a look at those link in a mo....
li_me.... the main clubcard points i thin once converted will work out at about £240 - £260 so this added to the £60 voucher left from christmas will hopefully pay for my oven at mfi..... what i meant was the little extra point vouchers that come with them... you know the ones.. 20 extra points if you buy....x......so i am just hoping that my vouchers come in time to be converted..
kscour...... very interesting i think its swings and roundabouts....... and i think you got to look at the overall spend not the individual item cost........as you say tescos worked out more expensive overall.......the thing is the supermarkets wants us to believe that they are the cheapest for EVERYTHING..... and obviously they are not.....
rach......hay march is not far away....use up what you got in the freezer and cupboards to stay in budget.......
catznine..... i can feel for you....seeing all those shops closed down.... and lets be real its not that long ago really that big supermarkets were a novelty not the norm....lets just try and support the ones we have left.....
hazzie123..... we all need a safety net shop..... my one is the co-op.... as a.. it is the nearest on to me...... plus i feel out of all the supermarkets.... they do have some ehtics... with fairtrade etc..... i now only buy my high juice from there.....
yesturday i phoned suma.......and yes i can order from them.... but the min order is £250.. but its like a co-operative.... where a few people in the area share the order.... i think rach said something about this type of thing in an earlier post.....fair does the price list has just come through the post now.... so will take a nose at the prices....and see what they are like........but one thing i will def buy.... is their corn for popcorn making.... what vaue for money...... and the kids make it themselves.... no asking me .....so also in a small fun way..... its also helping them to cook... well use the cooker and saucepan etc.....
will be back later to report about the suma catalogue and prices..... plus going to local market to get my fruit and veg....... pet food being delivered to day as well..... oh.. and pick up my bread and milk from the baker....and maybe a sneaky cake...:DWork to live= not live to work0 -
Morning all!
It is now over a week since i officially joined this quest...glad to say that it is easier knowing there are so many like minded people out there to support you. In the last 8 days, i have spent £60.56 on items, all at independent shops. This figure is not for a weeks shopping either, as i bought 2 weeks worth of meat. I need to get milk today, cress for my dragon, and also medicines as my little boy is not well - DON'T FORGET TO SUPPORT INDEPENDENT CHEMISTS TOO!! We have two lovely ones here, so no need to got to Tesco's.
Keep it going everyone:T :T

As I was walking around yesterday I had the same thought about the chemists and went in one to look for my hair dye. Unfortunately they didn't have it.
Somewhere you have mentioned free range eggs...where did you get them from, as I need to find a reliable supplier. We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
