Went into town today to get milk, can't get it in any little shops so went to the least 'big' supermarket, Somerfield. They didn't have the one I wanted so ended up in Tescos.
I felt sooo uncomfortable, it was unbelievable, kept on thinking "I shouldn't be here, I shouldn't be here" also half expectd the security guard to jump on me saying: You're a Tesco rebel, how dare you be here!!! I was out like a shot. Only felt well again when outside.
Wow, never thought I would feel like that!He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

I DID IT!!. I`m so chuffed because I found some writable cd`s in a little shop in a small market town. I was so hoping I could get them without resorting to mr T. I got some really lean mince from the butchers too and it was just so tasty in a bolognese sauce. They had an Textra store forced on them but the spar and nisa smartened themselves up and I notice that extra is very quiet so I reckon they are losing money :T
The best bit is having money in my purse all the time. I am only spending on what is on my list and am saving loads
I have had my last clubcard points now and will spend them on treats. Goodbye mr T0 -

well done kittie..........its a great feeling when you know that you have got waht you wanted.. without going into a big supermarket..... plus... as you say....... you only buy what you need...... so no impluse buys to take the money out of yuor purse.......Work to live= not live to work0 -
sandieb wrote:How much do you all expect to pay for a non-supermarket whole chicken? I prefer organic, but am interested in the "going rate" for both organic and the free range ones.
Thanks!0 -
kscour wrote:Local chicken was £1.40 /lb at local farm shop today but it'll be cheaper than that in our local shop. Went to get some sausages because they do different flavours but to be honest I think I prefer our local shop (prices are cheaper for a start!)
ye i have noticed that.......farmers markets....... etc..... seems to be on the premium priced side.. so i have been told... and read............
li_me.... just thinking have you had a gander over on the freebie board for stuff for the tombola........little samples are ideal for putting into a pretty basket....etc....Work to live= not live to work0 -
i went to weigh and save, bought jumbo oats for cereal bars and plain flour - decent bag of each for 48p total. then got 4 peppers for £1 at the local shop (fajitas for tea) i thought that was good value. i told the guy about my no supermarkets thing and he helpfully told me that all the fruit and veg is fresh on a monday.
only thing i forgot was sour cream for fajitas (i have yog but OH ilkes sour cream, told him he'll have to buy it if he wants iteven if he does it will be M&S at waterloo so not so bad, perhaps?!)

I've looked around town and found one fruit n vg shop that sells milk, actually organic milk. But the semi skimmed ones only in 1pt cartons. We use quite a lot of milk, so that would turn quite a bit dearer and as I've already overspent this months, so am a bit stuck at the moment.
I am considering, though, to get some of the milk there, therefore cutting down on supermarket milk
I haven't given up yet, I will find an alternative to supermarket milk - somehow :exclamatiHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

milk was one of my stumbling blocks in the begining.....had been using my local baker for a while then.. noticed the large fridge behind the counter.... full of pop etc... ( its near a large comp school) and right on the bottom shelf out of sight was milk.....i pay £1.15 for 2 ltre... so not to bad.......we are big milk users in our house......Work to live= not live to work0
